Getting more nervous... Loki is barely 3 months old and has had a persistent cough for about 2 weeks now. I have taken him to the vet's office 3x and I was given Clavamox (antibitotic) to give to him for 10days for possible kennel cough. The last 2 visits the doctor said to give it a little bit longer.......... Okay, my worry is that little dogs can get pneumonia after a while.... And the vet hasn't told me or done anything to ease my worries except make me spend more money for them to tell me to wait. Now his cough his raspy sounding... does that mean it's breaking up inside? Or does that mean something more serious????? Guess I should maybe look for another vet in the process huh? thanks a bunch! Jess & Loki:confused: |
Do you have confidence in your vet? If you don't, or are unsure, try going to a different one. I believe in getting a second opinion if the problem is still there. Good luck. |
to be honest.. quite frankly i dont... but even the hubby will tell you, im a worry wart and when it comes to loki... it's worse.. heh |
Try running a search on YT for kennel cough and I am sure you will find numerous discussions. Hope your baby feels better soon. |
if he thinks its kennel cough and its not getting better i'm surprised he's keeping her on the same meds. if your not confident in his treatment then i'd go to another vet. kennel cough is serious in these little guys because their lungs are so small. kennel couch can quickly turn into pnemonia. |
Our baby chi had kennel cough. The vet gave amoxicillin, and it cleared up within 10 days even though we kept him on the antibiotic for 14 days. I don't know if you know this already, but kennel cough itself is not treatable. It is like getting a cold. It has to run its course. The reason they give you an antibiotic is to prevent kennel cough from turning into pnemonia. Sometimes it can take longer for a pup to recover. And it gets worse before it gets better. The vet should be able to tell where the cough originates with a check up. Only a vet can tell you what is going on with your pup's cough by listening his lungs. If you do not trust your vet, I agree that you should find a vet you can trust. It is so important! I worry a bit more than what's necessary at times, and it makes a huge difference. Good luck with your little one. I hope Loki will get better soon. |
He was on his clavamox for about 15 days and was only supposed to be on for 10 also... His cough doesn't sound like the honking noise anymore its more like someone who is realy congested and trying to hack up mucus. I read that it's supposed to run it's course as the doctor already told me also it can last up to 2wks. But it just sounds even more horrible than it did before.... if his cough doesnt improve any today Loki will be going to a different vet tomorrow. thank you guys soooo much!! |
Cali had Kennel cough when I got her at 9 weeks and gave it to my older Pom, they both had it for over 3 months and 3 rounds of Clavimox. I just had the vet check Cali since she was so little and young to make sure it wasn't developing into pneumonia. Cali's cleared up after 3 months with it gradually improving during that time. Maya took oer 3 months but both were fine. |
