bloody stool  Phoebe has been sick since 4 days after her flight here. She has had a bad cough, snorting, back sneezing and sneezing, her stools got very loose and there is always a second bit of stool that is either clear mucous with red blood, or thick creamy mucous with red/pink blood. this has been going on for over three weeks, we've been to the vet about 4 times, been on two separate antibiotics, and all they say is she had a little swelling in her tonsils, and was eating grass. We have put pavers in her potty area, she continues on antibiotics and now they say to give her noodles in her food to gain weight, she is just 4 months and has gained 3-4 oz. in the last month. HELP! We are trying another vet this week. |
Bless her heart, I will be praying for her to get well soon...Have you tried feeding her chicken & rice... |
no I haven't tried that, I am so very afraid of hurting her or causing worse upset to her tummy. the cough can get very coarse, almost a barking cough (whooping?). She is still active and eating. |
Thank goodness I never encourted these problems until my pup was a Senior. However, a friend just adopted a 9 wk. old pup and was shipped to her. Her little guy has kennel cough and is on antibiotics. I don't think there should be blood in their stool which signals an extremely irritated bowel. If you don't feel confident, consider seeking another vet who has an internist in their hospital. Good luck. |
Cali had the bloody stool and bad kennel cough when I got her. They put her on antibiotics 3 times and finally the coccidia (bloody stool) cleared up after a few weeks and the kennel cough after 3 months. My vet told me to take her in the bathroom when I took a shower so she could get the benefit of the steam to help clear her respiratory track. Hang in there your baby weill get better. |
Thank goodness! Finally a stool with blood or mucous! Now if that hacking cough would stop, She sounds bad at night. Thankyou for all the info! |
:) Glad to hear little Phoebe is doing better. Did you take her to that new Vet.? |
getting better :) yes we went to a new vet and now she has normal stools, had giardia, she is coughing much less, kennel cough is getting better. and she has gained up to 4 pounds now! we go back tomorrow for a follow up. will keep you informed. |

Glad your baby is going better. |
Prayers answered Phoebe is really doing well, her cough is almost gone, stools are normal, and the yeast from almost 2mos. of antibiotics is clearing. Thank you all:) |
i am so happy your baby is doing better, keep us posted!! |
?allergies? Well, still am battling off and on cough. will try the shower thing. wondering if allergies are a contributing factor. Had x-ray, lungs, heart and kidneys are fine. still with inflamed larynx |
Glad to hear your baby is doing better. I know it's frustrating when they can't get 100 percent. You feel like you take 5 steps forward and 2 steps back! Is she being given anything for the inflammation? I might also suggest yogurt with live cultures in it as a diet addition, if that's not something you already do. (I know many YTers feed yogurt and I'm now among them.) Helps right the immune system -- most of which is directly related to digestive system --and that might help Phoebe get all the way around the corner. Good luck! |
