Please help!! Something is wrong!!! 1 Attachment(s) Buddy is not himself at all!!! (He is 5 months old). First of all, he started limping yesterday then today he is REALLY limping, he will not eat and is sleeping constantly. The problem seems to be with his front left foot/ankle/knee/shoulder...nothing seems to be tender to the touch but when he walks he will not put any weight on his left front leg. He doesn't even feel like going out to potty. He is normally running and playing a few hours a day but not today. We are so worried about him. My husband and I gave him a warm bath and really examined him but we found nothing unusual. I called the vet but they closed at 12 today. Being that it is Saturday, I will have to wait until Monday. Note: His bowl movements have been normal. His diet has not been changed. IS THERE ANYTHING TO GIVE THEM FOR PAIN? (obviously he is in pain) ALSO WHAT SHOULD I FEED HIM WHEN HE WILL NOT EAT. IS IT NORMAL TO NOT EAT WHEN THEY ARE HURT? I am a new Yorkie mommy, so PLEASE help!! http://www.dogster.com/dogs/494498 |
I wouldn't give him any pain medication unless you really know what is wrong. The leg pain could be referred pain from somewhere else. Is there an Emergency Hospital anywhere near you? Check the phonebook, ask your neighbors that have pets where they go after hours. In the meantime, I probably wouldn't force food. Do you keep Nutrical in the house? If so....give him a bit of that. Good Luck to you! |
If he won't drink, give him unflavored pedialyte to be sure he doesn't get dehydrated, you can do this by syringe (give it in the side of his mouth). Try canned food, that's usually pretty tempting. Or broiled chicken, that is easy on the tummy. |
Make sure that he is drinking water and definately get him to drink some pedialyte. I've had to force my 2 with the syringe many many times. How long has it been since he's not eating? I wouldn't stress so much about that if it has only been a few hours. But like others have said, boiled chicken and rice seems to always do the trick! If you have some low sodium chicken broth, you can poor a little of that on too, that very tempting for the little ones. Keep us posted :) |
Did you check in between the pads on his foot. Sometimes something can be nestled in between and cause pain when pressure is put on the foot. |
Be sure He drinks, eating can wait til morning if he doesn't want to (but it makes us feel better). Sometimes the vet will make them fast a day then start with chicken and rice to recover from an illness. If he doesn't get better by morning or gets worse tonight, I'd take him to the Emergency Vet. Like you said, he's not himself and he's sleeping alot. You know him best and you know something's wrong. Will be thinking of him, let us know he how's feeling. |
you should check if there are any other vets in your area, or possibly an emergency vet |
BTW, I don't think it's a good idea right now to give him anything for pain. If you take him in, it will "mask" the pain. |
Update: this is strange!! What a different 15 minutes can make...he went from REALLY bad to back to his normal self. About 2 minutes after I posted my first plea for help....he vomited on the floor. I immediately jumped up and called he emergency vet and ran to get ready to leave. My husband was watching him while I was gathering his things. My husband yelled for me to come quick. When I walked in the room, Buddy was running, jumping and playing ....like his old self!!! It seems senseless to take him to the emergency vet when he is boucing around like nothing is wrong. (he is still favoring that left leg though - but still running around) So now I am really puzzled. Should I take him or just keep an eye on him? NOTE: I was able to get him to drink water....and he just gobbled down all his food. This is really strange!!! Wow, the power of prayer!!! Thank you all for your prayers!! |
Great News! Something is obviously bothering his foot or leg. So, watch him, if he is not better by Monday, I'd take him to your regular Vet as soon as you can get an appt. Keep us posted :) |
Do you think he could have been bit by something, bee or maybe spider? My Xena was stung by a bee and limped for a day. The vet said to watch her breathing patterns after a bug bite. But she was fine a day later. Just a thought. Good luck. |
That's wonderful, it sounds like it could have been a bite. Watch him carefully, if you don't take him in. I'm so glad he's looking better. |
Hope he gets better! Me and Chili are thinking about you. These little baby's should never have to feel bad. |
Thank God he is doing better, but I will take him to the vet just to make sure he is fine :hands: |
The SAME thing happened to Louie and I swear he was about the same age as yours at the time, only, it was his back leg that he was favoring.....he was holding right up off the floor but when i touched it or moved it or anything it did not hurt him at all. It was really weird, but a few days later he was walking on it normal again. Does your babies foot or leg hurt when you touch it? I would not give anything for pain. Good luck. |
