Not sure what's wrong with Barkley! Hi, I joined to ask about a problem we've been having. Our yorkie, Barkley, has been getting older and older. He's now at the point where I feel he's suffering. We're contacting the vet in the morning, but I also decided to post here. The main problems are: he can't keep his food down, he's vomiting, "coughing", and he's making grunting noises. My girlfriend's dad suggested that it could be a blockage of some sort, but we weren't able to find a remedy online yet. Our neighbor said yorkie's esophaguses are known to collapse, so that's what they thought was happening. Hopefully someone will have advice to offer. Thanks! |
Sorry, this one is over my head. I know Yorkies and other small dogs are prone to collapsing tracheas, but it's usually the result of injury to the throat. Good luck, and please let us know what the vet has to say. |
Sorry to hear about Barkley. The trachea problem shouldn't cause the throwing up. The vet should be able to help you find out what is causing the problems and hopefully treat him. Good luck |
Oh, I'm sorry your little one is sick:( Hopefully the vet can help you out today. Keep us posted. |
Thanks for the replies :) He's doing much better today! At first, he wouldn't eat, so we made him a combination of canned food and rice... still wouldn't touch it at first, until I started to hand feed it to him. Once he got a taste, he ate it all up. :p |
I am glad he's feeling better today. How old is he? Kim |

How old is Barkley? Has he been checked for any heart issues? Often times the coughing/hacking can be a sign of heart problems. We had two toy poodles at the facility where I work that both have severe heart problems and they both would cough a lot because of it. I would atleast get that checked out. I'm sorry he's feeling so down and out. Keep us updated on how he is doing :) BTW welcome to YT! |

I second that opinion! My toy poodle had heart issues with some of those same symptoms and daily medication gave him at least 5 more healthy, happy years. Talk to your vet about that possibility. And best wishes for his better health. |
