Help, Im a new mom to 2 yorkies!
 
I have just adopted 2 yorkies that are both between the ages of 8-12 they look like skin and bones and have really thin hair. I know I can feed them back the right weight but I am worried about their skin and hair. We are feeding them lamb and rice , what can I put on their skin or help their hair grow? Thanks for any help!:aimeeyork

It is just going to take time, Just get their health up to par and the skin and hair will get better.

Congratulations on your new furbabies! It is wonderful that you have rescued two older yorkies. The quality of the coat is internal and genetic. Some yorkies have a silky coat and others have a cottony coat. First step would be a checkup at the vet for any kind of medical problems such as a thyroid problem. The next step is a good quality food. Go to dogfoodanalysis.com to find a good product and read the reviews. You can also try adding missing link which is a pet supplement that contains fatty acids, some plant products, vitamins that are usually not in many packaged foods. The next step is time, it may take a few months to start to see a change.
They are lucky pups to have found a caring owner like you and don't forget to take lots of pictures to watch them change from skin and bones to vibrant healthy dogs.

Congratulations on your two new furbabies :) How exciting! Go to the website yorkieaddict provided and find a high quality food that way. Read the reviews. 4 star and 5 star are said to be the best for yorkies. And find something that has omega-3 fatty acids, missing link is good. It will help with the skin and hair.

Thanks for the support, They are the sweetest things and I could not just take one and seperate them. I hope that they continue to adjust well with us. The tiny one we call Princess she is the most loving, she came home with us and just blended in, as a lap dog, lol. Her sister I think needs a little time to get to know everyone and feel comfortable. Once again thanks for the advice and I'll keep you updated on my little bundel of joys.:animal-pa
