Pus on private girl area?? My Daisy (9 months old) got spayed Tuesday and this morning I found her stinky and she smelled like 'infection' so I immediatly checked her insicion area, no, then looks at her 'cookie' and saw pus coming out  , and it freaked me out. I called the vet and he prescribed her Amoxicillian (sp?) and told him she had not been really thrilled about eating or drinking (I have been giving her Nutri-cal) and I figured it was because of the pain meds she was on and that she peed on the carpet and bed (unusual for her...she is 99% potty trained, except when she meets new people and she gets excited). I am very upset this happened and maybe I am blowing this out of proportion, but is there anything else I can do? What would you guys do if you were me? She is my baby and I would be heartbroken if she died over something like this. |
Pus on her private girl area Did the vet examine her? There shouldn't be pus and definitely an infection is brewing. Good luck and I would never be worried about "blowing it out of proportion when it comes to insuring you pup is receiving the proper medical care. |

No he didnt examine her, but I told him what was going on and he said to try her on the antibiotics and if she doesnt get any better, than bring her in. She has been on it since 8pm last night and seems to be doing well now... I am glad you guys understand how much one can love their Yorkies! |
Don't they automatically put them on an antibiotic after surgery? I would be very upset. They can decline in a hurry. |

Follow up Don't want to alarm you, but your pup should have been treated with antibiotics immediately following surgery. Please watch her and if she is not responding, see another vet. Also, remember when it is time for her teeth cleaning, she should receiving antibiotics prior to the cleaning and afterward. Warmly, Deborah |
^^ i agree even my boys got them also to prevent infection |
