Oh Please Reply!!!! Im waiting on a call from my vet he is doing a sonagram on a cow and i guess his phone doesnt have reception but Sam I think was stung by a bee on his lil mouth or nose!!!! He weighs about 3lbs and I dont know if I can give him benadryl or not -- he doesnt seem to be swelling but he keeps pawing at his nose or mouth and now is just sitting beside me... not being his normal wild man self!!! HELP! |
Poor baby. Buddy got stung when he was a tiny pup on his eyelid. The vet said to apply ice and look for the stinger and get it out. If it's not there just apply ice off and on to prevent swelling. Keep an eye on him for any allergy reactions. I had no benadryl at the time but the swelling was bad. Ice helped and he was ok in a couple of hours. Hope your baby will be fine also. |
Dont have any good advise but I hope your VET can see him soon :( |
Here you go ...I just googled what to do - it has TWO scenarios ....first being the worst reaction. I've done the meat tenderizer on my own self and it DOES work - GOOD LUCK !!! Possible allergic reaction - get veterinary help immediately - has difficulty breathing - has difficulty swallowing - hyperactivity such as barking possibly followed by fainting. Bee sting reactions can sometimes mimic seizures. - swelling spreads beyond the sting area 2. No allergic reaction - Remove the stinger. Scrape the visible portion with a card, fingernail or other thin and rigid object. Pulling on the stinger could cause it to break or even push more venom into the skin. - If you cannot reach the stinger, leave it as it should eventually be shed. - Place some meat tenderizer into a bowl with a small amount of water and mix it into a paste. Apply this to neutralize the venom which will help relieve pain and swelling. Keep it on for at least 30 minutes. You may have to wrap gauze or cloth around the area to prevent licking. Afterwards, you can simply rinse it off. - Alternatively, you can place an ice cube on the site for a few minutes to relieve the pain. |
oops double post.... |
I know you an give benedryl but I dont remember the dosage. I will try to find my firstaid sheet |
The dosage is 1 mg per pound twice a day |
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your replies. Sam is doing fine now, like it never happened. I think my state of panic made him nervous. Good thing I dont have kids!!!!! I never did see a stinger but he has has so much hair around his lil mouth. I got a thing of frozen corn, covered it with a towel, got his blankie and we layed on the couch. My vet did call me back and said if there was no swelling and he wasnt acting funny then he was fine. He has an appt on Wedn to finish up his shots. He told me to give him 1/4 of a Benadryl pill if it looked like he was swelling or having a reaction and told me that I need to CALM DOWN, lol! So did my Mom. I just panic. Thanks again! It made me feel better with the great advice. |
So glad you and your little one got through that! It can be so very frightening when your baby is hurt/ill and you don't know what to do. Sounds like you were a wonderful mommy and you'll be getting lots of puppy kisses today:) |
