HELP!!! Max had his rabies shot yesterday... and he is not putting pressure on his back right leg. He's having trouble walking--only hobbles along on 3 legs. He's just not himself today--he usually is active and follows me around everywhere and he seems to be so uncomfortable when he moves. Is this normal??? I can't remember if this happened last time he got his rabies shot since it was 3 years ago. My vet is not available today and when I called the emergency number, I was told that sometimes they can be sore from the shot and to give him benadryl. I'm so worried about the little guy. I hate seeing him in pain when he moves :( :( :( :( :( |
Its probably from his shots and his leg is real sore and doesn't want to walk on it...see how he does tomorrow, and if not better call your vet....:) |
Oh forgot to tell Max to start feeling better soon.....:( |
I remember when Peanut got his shot .He cried for two days. Next time I had the Vet give him his shot towards his back side. |

So sorry your baby is feeling badly...only thing I have ever noticed from the yearly bout of shots except rabies which is once every few years, is that my boy sometimes seem sluggish for the remainder of the day, hope you baby is feeling better soon! |

The shot may have poked close to the nerve that goes from the spine to the leg which would cause a lot of discomfort when walking, just like a human having sciatica pain when walking, even tho the effected nerve is the one that comes from the spine. |
Vaccine Just wanted to check on your dog. My Yorkie had the 3 year rabies vaccine and he started with not being able to walk and within an hour he could not stand on his legs. Emergency vet visit just in time! He got steroids and antihistamine with great improvement. But he almost died. Interesting that your dog had a similar symptom. My dog had his shot in the shoulder. Hope your dog is OK! All of this occurred within a 4 hour period. Susan |

Benedryl The vet gave Spunky benedryl and steroids for a vaccine allergic reaction. Perhaps that is what happened to your Yorkkie and the benedryl was give early enough. Glad your baby is OK. |
I am happy to report that Max is back to his old self today. This morning he was bopping around and following me when I was getting ready for work. Then he started stealing my socks so I knew that he was ok :D . |
Awww poor baby! I think rabies shot is equal to the tetanus shot for us.........it's painful! He must be so sore.........try putting ice on him. |
Never mind my post above..........I read that he is back to normal........I am so happy to read this!!!! |
So glad to hear your little man is back to normal!!!!:) |
I'm glad he is back to himself today!!! |
Maggie is almost 1 yr old and still doesn't has her anti-rabies shot... I don't know, I fear so much a bad reaction of the vaccine that maybe I'll never give her this one vaccine... besides I live in an apartment and neither one of my furkids have contact w/ animals I don't know... Katiuscia & Maggie... & Hannah my new baby!!!:aimeeyork :aimeeyork :D PS: I'm glad your baby is okay again... |
Rabies Vaccine Hi, I am the lady that told you about Spunky having an allergic reaction to the 3 year Rabies vaccine by Merial. I am also an RN. If I were you I would get him to a vet. If that is not possible, then Benedryl is an antihistamine and it does reverse allergic reactions. On your vaccination certificate, it should have the Manufacturer and Serial Number of the vaccine. Did he also get a booster? My Yorkie's reaction was reported to Merial that manufactured the Rabies and to Fort Dodge who manufatured the 5 in 1 booster. The reaction was also reported to a Toxicologist at the Animal Poison Control Center. You can google the Manufacturer and find their number and speak with a vet tech. If he got anything from Merial or Fort Dodge, then I think that it is important to call them. If they say they have not had a similar report then that is not true. You can email me privately if I can help. Susan |
