I think Riley might have an ear infection:( His ears have an odor to them, and I read online that it may be an ear infection. It also said that scratching at them often is another sign, which he has been doing. I feel so bad:( Is an ear infection hard to get rid of? I am bringing him to the vet Monday, but is there anything else I can do for him in the mean time? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |
Glad you are taking your baby to the vet. I bought in Petsmart yesterday ear relief wash ( itch and odor control with clove oil) and ear relief dry (keeps ears fresh and dry) is made by veterinarian's best. I use it just to prevents any ear infection on Phoebe. I think it won't hurt to try.:aimeeyork |
Is the odor on the sweet side? If so, it may be a yeast infection. That can be difficult to get rid of, so make sure not to stop treating it too soon. Don't use Q-tips to clean out the ears as that can push debris further into the ear causing more problems. Good luck to you! |
My pit has an ear infection, and it smells awfull. I tried using something for mites not knowing if it would help, and it did not, so we're off to the vets on Monday. |
thanks for the suggestions... Ill head to PetSmart today to see what I can find as far as a rinse goes. Then Monday its off to the vet! Poor little guy wont stop itching. I think mommy accidently got some water in his ears last time he had a bath:( |
Poor baby, hope you can find something to give him relief over the weekend till he gets into the vet. I hate when one of my babies is sick so I understand how you feel:( |
Sorry to hear your pup may have an ear infection. I'm an old pro with them as one of my Goldens would get yeast infections in her ear all the time. Goldens are prone to them. Going to the vet is a good idea. If it is a yeast infection, he will probably prescribe Otomax drops for it. Until then try taking a cotton ball and putting some hydrogen peroxide on it. You might have some already in your medicine cabinet, and it comes in a brown bottle. It is the main ingredient in most ear washes you would buy for a lot more money. Very inexpensive. Don't soak the cotton ball, just enough to dampen it. Gently lift her ear and clean the ear canal with out going to deep. The hydrogen peroxide will both clean the infection, and help to dry out the ear canal. Do it a few times with a new cotton ball. Finally, use a fresh dry cotton ball to dry it out. If she has floppy ears, you may want to tape them together so that her ear is up and fresh air can get in to keep them dry. Moisture is one of the biggest causes of yeast infections. Also, I would clean both ears even if only one smells. I do this weekly with my dogs and it works like a charm. Good luck and definately take her into the vet on Monday. What he can prescribe will probably help her find much relief for the itching. |
