Yorkie PROBLEM I obtain a female spay Yorkie yesterday. The reason I have her is the person who was taking care of her could not handle her little issues. The person stated that she has seizures and paces the floor non stop. I took her to the vet first thing. She "according to the vet" has ADHD. I could not find any information regarding ADHD in dogs. He suggested giving her Benadryl. I gave her some yesterday however it did not slow her down. She paces the floors. She paced the floor no lie for a solid 6 hours yesterday, NON STOP! The only time in the last 24 hour period have I seen her sleep was at 12:00 a.m this morning. She was back up pacing at 5:00 a.m and has been going non stop. Does anyone have any suggestions!!! |

I don't know if this is any help, but I rescued a tiny kitten who would not stop pacing, but would walk into things, turn and keep walking like those toy cars. He wouldn't stop walking for anything. He also had seizures. I took her to the vet and it turned out she had coccidia and some other very bad intestinal paracite that had left him blind and probably deaf. Is you baby able to see? I feel bad for her and hope whatever it is, it's something that can be taken care of. |
She can see, she might possibly not be able to hear well. She does not bump into things she just paces. She comes to my legs and looks up at me and will let me pet her for about 2 seconds and then she is back to pacing. If we call her to us she will look and come but she just can't be still. |
How odd? Maybe she will calm down as she gets used to her new home? Sounds like a question for Cesar Milan to me?! :confused: |
Surely something can be seen through blood work, have you tried that yet? |
I personally don't believe in ADD or ADHD. I had one son that a Dr. said he had ADD and wanted to give him meds. I instead after much research, took him to a chiropractor instead. It's generally the upper three vertebra pinching on a nerve. After only a few adjustments, he was like a new kid. Also my father in law was a pharmacist, and said the medication the Dr. wanted to put him on can cause sterilization in males. (most information that comes in to the pharmacists, never get to the public). Anyway, it does sound like the Vet. really doesn't know what the real problem is, so it's the same sad story.........give medicine!! Have that Vet. refer you to a neurologist. In the meantime, take her off all dog food, bought snacks and put her on a very bland diet of ground beef and rice or chicken and rice. Add a little non-fat plain yogurt and cottage cheese. I do hope the problem is corrected for her sake. She must be so miserable. |
Was she a rescue from puppy mill or was she in a kennel alot? poor girl |
We an only estimate her age. He stated approx. 5-6 years old. I am researching and I think maybe he meant to say obsessive compulsive dissorder. On the internet they talked about clomipramine. Anyone ever tried that medication? If she has been doing this a long time they say corrective behavior might not work. Of course if she does actually have a mind issue corrective behavior probably wouldn't work anyway. |

I have only had her 24hours so I cannot give you much information on her past. I do know that the person who had her for 2 weeks before I was called, kept her in a kennel while he worked. The reason I took her was because he said if I wouldn't then he was going to get rid of her. And not in a nice way. He knew I would take her if I thought he was going to dispose of her im sure. I don't know that I will ever be able to afford to have blood work and all of the necessary lab work performed. All I can offer her right now is a safe environment and love. Thats why I am posting for solutions. Everyone has been great trying to give me help :) |
Sounds like the yorkie was in the cage all her life, not just with the previous owner but maybe one before??? I heard that those neglected dogs tend to pace all day and all night.... Poor thing. I think she needs a ton of TLC!!!!! |
