Help !! Bleeding Toenails can someone pls tell me how to stop bleeding... i'm panicking, i cut the toenails a bit too short i guess. i applied pressure but its bleeding lots and wont stop. anything i can do or apply? thx..pls reply asap |
If the toenail is cut too short, you can use a styptic pencil containing silver nitrate to stop blood flow, although many animals object to the styptic pencil as much, or more, than toenail cutting. The black end of the stick is held to the bleeding nail and gently rotated until bleeding stops. Even without any treatment the nail should stop bleeding in about 5 minutes or less http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/clientED/dog_nails.asp |
thx so much..... |
You can dip the toes in flour. |
You can also get the styptic in a granual form. I like the heavy duty emery board myself. :) That is one thing anyone with a dog and cuts their nails should always have on hand. |
Ouch! I was told that corn starch works good too. If the bleeding doesn't stop though, I'd get to the vet. I hope it's stopped now, please update? |
