Surgery for Mimi I left the vet's office at noon today with Little Mimi in her care. She will have surgery today to repair her broken leg. She has had it in a splint for two months. We will have a long road ahead, but for now we look forward to a successful surgery. Thanks to all who have been supportive and had lots of good advice. |
Hope everything turn out well, prayers are going on your way:hands: |
Praying for a safe surgery and a speedy recovery. |
Sending prayers and puppy hugs Mimi's way. |
update on surgery Well Mimi's surgery is over. Her little leg has been rubbed raw by the splint. They tell me it looks like a sunburn. She is not eating well so she will have to stay another night. This has been quite the experience. There are a lot of things I would have done differently. When I spoke to the surgeon last night she told me there was very little left of the bone (above the ankle) to work with but to hope for the best. My heart feels like it weights a ton. I don't know if it would be a good thing to go and see her today or just wait until tomorrow when I pick her up. I don't want her to think I am abandoning her by showing up and then leaving. |
Will continue prayers for your little one. Maybe call the vet's office throughout the day and if she is resting comfortably and you can bear it just wait till tomorrow when you pick her up. I know if mine saw me and then I had to leave they would just cry and I can't stand seeing them that upset when they need all their strength to recuperate:( |
Poor little sweetheart! I'll be thinking of you and Mimi and praying that the surgery was a success and for her to recover quickly. It's so sad that she has been in a cast for so long and after all that, having to have surgery. Hugs to you! |
Poor little Mimi I hope she will recover quickly! I understand so very well what you are going true right now. Sending you my thoughts and prayers. :rose: Vivi |
sorry for double post This is in the "please pray" post but I thought I would let everyone know we are home. It has been a long two days. Mimi did well with her bone graft. They needed to graft some bone into the fracture. Now she said we need to hope for the best. Eight to twelve weeks. I look at her sad little face and I just wish she could talk to me. Her little leg looks so bad and her little paw pads are so sore she can't even touch the floor. The only grace is knowing that is actually working in her favor. I know in a few days we will all get adusted to the meds and all the tlc we will give to her. If anyone has any suggestons on things I can do for her I would be so grateful to hear personal experiences. I just tried to get ice on her leg and oh my she just looks so fragile and I don't want to hurt her. Now we will just count down until June. |
Willow and I are praying for your sweet Mimi Quote:
Did Mimi get a plate, screws? Does she have another cast or bandage or just a bare naked shaved leg with stitches that looks like a chicken bone? If it is the later . . . trust me . . . it gets easier to look at with time. Just let her lay down as much as possible and get as much rest as possible and let that little leg heal. Keep the incision as dry as possible. In a few days it will be merely impossible to keep that little puppy quiet. Oh I have so many tips for you . . . all you need to do is ask. You can pm me with any questions you may have and I would be more than happy to give you my telephone number and you can call me. We just went through this so it is very fresh. Our orthopedic surgeon said that we did everything perfectly and it helped in Willow's recovery. We will continue to pray for you and Mimi as you continue to cross every day off on your calendar. |
Praying for a speedy recover for sweet little Mimi... |

This is exacly what Eulalia got true a couple of weeks ago. The vet. graft some bone into the fracture! Eulalias leg is all shaved and look so tiny and thin, she has also lost all the muscles but those can get back later, if the leg will healed. Eulalia has a 1/2 cast around the leg. Hard to explain sorry...but it covers one side of the leg. I take it off every second day to very, very gently massage her leg and to check that the leg looks fine (=no infection) After the massage I put back the plate of cast and the red wetflex. To make sure it is hold at the place I have made a kind of bandage of a doll pantyhose. Was thinking about making a cover for the leg and cast with a baby sock as well. If you wish I can take photos of the cast and bandage to show you what I am trying to explain here. We have another appointment at the vet Monday morning, so I will let you know what he says. The stiches will also be removed that morning. Thinking of you and little Mimi!!! |
Poor babies, all of them! I will be praying for little Mimi as well as Eulalia & Willow. I have a bone graft in my neck and it sometimes bothers me in very cold weather. I pray that these little ones will heal up like new and never, ever have a problem with their tiny little legs! God bless you all. |
Thank you for the pictures. It helps me to compare what her leg could or should look like. I wish Mimi's leg looked that good. It is really bad. It looks like second degree burns on about fifty percent of her leg. Her little pads are so sore she can not even touch the floor with her paw. I can't wait for her skin to heal so we know there will not be any infection. I will keep everyone posted on our situation. Take good care. Your little girl is so precious. |
