Inflammatory bowel... Has anyone ever dealt with this and what kind of treatment did you use? One of my yorkies was diagnosed with cancer 6 months ago and now they are thinking that they were wrong and that he has a severe case of inflammatory bowel. They are looking over his files at our regular vet and the referral service we used and are supposed to let me know in the next couple of days if they will change his diagnosis and treat him for the IB. Any help would be appreciated! Lisa |
My cat has this. We control it with diet and she has to get a anti-inflamtory shoot of some sorts every 4-5 months. |
Whoa! That's a big leap from cancer to inflammatory bowel! Was he on chemo or radiation therapy? Yikes! I would get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion. I would think that's a huge mistake in the diagnosis. Dig deeper to find out what it really is. |
Inflammatory Bowel He was originally treated for Inflammatory Bowel and nothing was working, that went on for about 2 months or so. When nothing helped at all, we were sent to a Referral Service (specialist) to have a scope done (colonoscopy). Before they did the colonoscopy, they did an ultrasound and that is when they found how thick his intestines were. Based on how thick they were and where it was located, they determined that they didn't need to do the scope because the scope wouldn't go that far anyway. Due to the thickness, it was said that he had cancer. He was expected to live about 1 month. It has now been 6 months and not much has changed with him other than him getting thin. He is very boney now, he started at nearly 8.5 pounds and he is now 7.0 pounds. The vet who saw him this time is the head vet (and owner) and he is the one who thinks that the referral service may be wrong. He is trying to get more info from them. |
My Bichon (PTS @ 17yrs because of seizures and failing) had IBS for many years. It was confirmed by biopsy. After initial tx with meds. (abx, flagyl and prednisone) and switching his food to a foreign (something he had never had before) protein source-Wellness, whitefish and sweetpotatoe he did really well with just an occassional bout of stomach pain and diarrhea. Later in life he developed bladder stones and had to have surgery due to his diet. But he lived a good life once things got under control. |
