debbiect | 02-19-2007 09:10 AM | shots made sparky sick Well here we go again. If some of you remember, last month about 9 days after Sparky had shots, he got really sick....vomiting multiple times. I took him to the vets, they kept him several hours and said he probably got stressed from the sneezing he did prior to vomiting. I went back and picked him up and he was fine. Saturday morning I took him back to vets for his 13 week checkup and shots. I reminded the vet about Sparky getting sick before, and again they told me if it had been the shots, he would have shown a reaction 24 - 48 hours afterwards. So they gave him a shot, but also gave him some benedryl with it. They also wormed him again. That was about 10 in the morning. Well about 1 he began the vomiting again...8 - 10 times. Of course the vets office had already closed, so I called the ER vets and they said he could stop breathing or have swelling and I needed to bring him in to be checked. So I did..After two shots to calm his stomach, an injection of fluid subcutaneous and $110 later we were back home. Needless to say, voila, it was a reaction to the shots. Now, next month he's due for shots again, and probably the rabies shot too. (They held off on it this time because they said they did not want to stress him too much). What do they do when this happens? Cause it really upset my husband that they didn't think the first incident was due to the shots, and then that he got so sick from the shots. He says whats the point in the shots if he's going to get so sick from them. |
