Babybear Update 1 Attachment(s) Good afternoon everyone, Babybear and I wanted to give you all an update on his progress. Sorry it has been a while since the last time we posted an update, but we have had some ups and downs. We have been really doing his therapy hard lately hoping that he will gain more stangth in his legs front mostly. Well all has paid off in some ways. I came out of my kitchen today to see him sitting up. Now this is a big step for him. He has always layed or I have propped him up on a blanket or a pillow. Well today he sat up all alone and was there for a few minutes. I was so over joyed. It was such a happy time. Every little thing he does makes me so happy. It has now been 6 months since he broke his neck (do to Atlantoaxial Instability (AAI/AAS)). And in a few days it will be 6 months since surgery. So for him to still do new things it is like a new baby doing things in my eyes. I am still hoping to see him walk again some day. I am hopefully going to be able to put his picture under this post so you all can see. He still is not walking but we are surely working hard to get there. He does not like his cart, but I make him stay in it and hope every time he will walk. He did a few times but now he is stobburn. I think you all know how a yorkie can be.lol Well he is true yorkie. Oh I didn't know if I should post his progress here or if I should post it someplace else so please if I should be posting Babybear's updates in a differant section please let me know. |

Okay don't asking me what happend there I just don't know. I had just written a nice reply back to you all and I hit enter and what is above came up. Hmm there must be a monster amoung us. I had written that I wanted to thank all over you for all your kind words and encouragements. It is a long road, but we will get there. He did do some new things today I would like to tell you about. I was laying on the floor with Babybear this afternoon after work. And I figure we would try some new things. So I stood him and made sure his legs were positioned right. I slowly but gently let go of him and he stood there for a good minute. I saw him starting to fall and I put my hands back on him. He then laid down. I was clapping and telling him he was a good boy and giving him kisses and he was giving them back. Then about 15 minutes later I stood him again and I didn't let go this time. Well my son walked through the door and thank god I as holding Babybear he went crazy wanting to know who was coming in the door so he tried walking forward and he gets jerky when he walks and he ended up walking right over my shoulder with his front paws and his back paws were on the floor in front of me. He still crosses his legs when he tries to walk. Does anyone have any idea's how to correct this?? I was so proud of him today. He makes me such a proud momma. |
Hi Val My heart melted when I read this post and it brings back so many emotions of Sedricks recovery. I so remember the day that Sedrick was able to stand and take his first steps - just the look on his face was so proud and excited. The question you had regarding the crossing of his legs is something Sedrick encountered as well. The signal from his brain to his legs has not be relearnt yet. Once Sedrick was able to stand on is own, we started doing the "left, right, left, right" excercise with his legs and we found that imprinted the signal back into his brain. Try standing Babybear up and have someone hold onto his back legs while you hold onto the front and practice the left right left right movement. Let me know how this works for you. Give Babybear a "high :animal-pa from his pal Sedrick and Sedrick says he can't wait for the day that they can chase all the cute yorkie girls together!! - that day will soon be here - keep up the great work!! I'm glad to hear he's doing better! He's really a strong little boy. I hope he continues a well recovery, and can't wait to read about him walking again! |
