cracked and dry paws, what to use? i tried to search under "cracked paws" but didn't come up with much.... right now, my doggies have cracked paws, is there anything i can put to heal it that is safe for them too? or should i just put aveno lotion on their paws? i see all those wax products like shaw, excel, and musher's but they don't exactly heal the paws just a preventative. tthanks, worried yorkie owner of three |
I remember seeing ads for a balm for cracked paws. I googled 'dog paw balm' and saw several that may work for you:) |

Vermont's Bag Balm....you can get it at any neighborhood drug store. Green Square Tin Can. It's what farmers used on their dairy cows utters to keep them soft and heal chapping. |
Olive oil is great for their paws and it won't hurt them if (and they will ) lick it . I use it alot. Good luck:) |
1 Attachment(s) thanks so much for the help, my doggies say hi....well, a nappy hi |
There is a wonderful product called Paw Pleaser. It is specifically for cracked and dry paws. It's made from grape seed extract, sweet almond, vegetable, olive and apricot kernel oils, shea and coco butters, green tea, bees wax, aloe vera, vitamin E and palm leaf powder. I got it at a nearby store, but the web site on the container is www.petaromatics.com. Phone #1-877-738-2766. I had a crack on my toe and it took weeks to heal. When it came back, I used this stuff and it was GONE in 2 days. I do use it on my dogs, too! :D I would highly recommend it.  omega Oh, it comes in a 2 oz. container and would last a long time cause you only have to use a little bit. It's very thick. I think I paid $14.95 for it, but don't know if it might be cheaper online somewhere? |

Coat Handler also has a product out called Skin Works that might be good for the paws, too |
Reesie's paws got really cracked this past summer from the pool. The vet told me to rub vaseline on them, but to also watch for possible infections. |
I was going to say bag balm too. It works for human feet so it should work for puppy paws too. |
I agree with the bag balm idea...that stuff works for everything. :) I don't have that problem with any of my dogs, but my aunt does and uses some stuff called Snow Dogs. She seems to like it. |
yeah my Dunks doesnt have cracked paws but its very dry feeling... I was told by one of a Yorkie owner while at the dog park to not walk him on cement as much coz it messes up their paws or wears them out... so this post really helped. Im going to look up some stuff today and ask my vet since my Dunks have an eye infection and makes that hacking hairball sound.. so Ill ask all my vet my questions... =) |
I use Aquaphor for Babies. It realllly works! |
