Gracie is limping! I just noticed this evening that Gracie is favoring her right front leg. She will bear some weight on it but it hurts her to do so. She seemed fine earlier today. We went for our usual walk at the park. Nothing happened there. She was fine when we got home. I am stumped. Maybe she ran down the stairs and landed wrong and strained something? It breaks my heart to see her hurting. I just don't know what to do. I can't tell where the pain is. She does not cry when I touch her foot, leg or shoulder. If she is not better tomorrow I will call the vet for an appointment on Monday. |
layla did this last week with her back right paw.. made me sick to my stomache... give it a bit... i think layla must have pulled soemthing... she did it for about two days... same thing.. didn't care that i touched it... didn't cry... and now she is fine.. who knows what these little guys do :confused: but give her a bit... it might just go away.. and save you a trip to the vet! |
Smaller breeds could have knee problems where the knee cap goes out of place and pops back in place. Sometimes their fine and other times it hurts. I would have it checked. |
i am pretty sure yorkies only have knee caps in the back.. not the front.. but i could be wrong.. think i read that somewhere... |

I felt around some more and it is for sure in her foot/paw. She pulls back when I touch it. She does not cry though. Poor baby! |
Update: Gracie seems to be doing a little better today. She is still limping but not as bad. I carried her up and down the stairs last night. She is not very hungry this morning but I attribute that to not chasing the cats so much because of her foot. I hope she continues to mend! Thanks for the support. |

I'm hoping this morning finds Gracie all healed and jumping around again! Just so you know, my vet once told me that most animals can take a lot of pain before they'll actually whimper, so if she ever does actually cry out, get her to the vert. Ohterewise, l;ike the others have said, I'd take a couple of days wait and see attitude. Good luck! |

These little ones seems to always be jumping off of something, or going way to fast down the stairs, so this type of injury is common. If there is any swelling at the joint, or she doesn't stop limping in a day or so, I'd go get an X-Ray. Hope it's just a sprain. |

i would get an xray if you have insurance that covers it. i'm not sure that yorkies have too much problems with the front legs by hereditary ways.... my tiggy was recently diagnosed with Leggs-Perthes which targets the hips. She is scheduled for surgurey next week. Luxating Patella is another condition of the knee caps. dogs don't have knee caps in front right? if you can take a quick xray of the front, i don't think you need sedation if xraying the front..... glad everything is better though:) |
I have two dogs that started limping on their back legs this week. They dont do it all of the time. I think it may be from jumping off of the deck and chasing each other around. I guess I need to put posts or something around it so they have to go down the stairs instead of jumping off of it. It isnt that high but I guess they could have landed wrong or something. I hope that is all it is anyway and not anything more serious. |
