Coccidia Anyone's Yorkie ever have it? My girl started on Albon last Friday and still has blood in her loose stools. Just wondering how long it takes to cure. I will call the vet tomm. |

my Tiger had it . . just requires antibiotics and he should be fine . . . |
Mimi had it too. She did fine and was all better within days. |
Yes, first dose was doubled (which was last Fri. night). Then .75 cc's for the next 13 days. As of tomm. it will be 7 days and still no sign of improvement. Same with the kennel cough. Had to take a break from antibiotics to treat the kennel cough so we could tackle the coccidia (as it was causing bloody loose stools). I just thought I would be seeing some improvement by now. |
Took Piper over 3 weeks to get better from that. Although she also had giardia at the same time. |
Took my Misha about a month to get over it. I finally gave a little more Albon than what I was supposed to give and she then got over it. |
Lucy had it and with the albon, she recovered quickly. |
Cali had it when I got her along with kennel cough and with the albon it took about 3 weeks to get better. |

Good luck! You may want to get some nutrical. |
POOR BABY !! Chanel came to me with it also. It took 2 weeks of solid nursing and hand feeding her to get her fully back to normal but it's SO worth it - keep her very hydrated and if you need to give her water/pedialite thru a syringe - do it !! That's very important. The albon should work fairly quickly - but after the trauma of being so sick it takes a bit longer for them to get their bounce back and yougetthesmiles is right - try some nutrical too. I also gave Chanel boiled rice & a small bit of mashed boiled chicken ....GOOD LUCK !! The medication should kick in in a day or 2 |
Thanks. She appears to feel just fine. Loves to eat. As a matter of fact, she will try to steal your food right out of your hands. A greedy little grubber. Her favorite chew up is crayons. Gotta watch those. Still has the runny (VERY SMELLY) loose stools. Will cont. on with the Albon. I guess I didn't realize that it couldn't take so long to cure. We had been treating the kennel cough, but once the loose stools started, she had a drop in blood sugar (Nutra-cal saved the day). I hope some day she is completely healthy. She deserves that. |
Jewelina had it and had no problems whatsoever. She went on the Albon with the double dosage first and then they switched her back to just one dosage a day for two weeks. She never had any blood in her stool or any problems regarding eating or energy. She just acted like her normal self. After two weeks I brought her back tot he vet and they ran a fecal check and she was perfectly fine. If your baby does have trouble though I'd keep the nutrical on hand. Luna's Mommy also has a great formula recipe that Jewelina just loved. I used to give it to her before she went to bed to make sure her blood levels stayed high. If you'd like the recipee and can't find it on here feel free to PM me and I can send it to you. |
When my Molly Muffins had it, the first question our vet asked was "do you have a bird feeder?" Which we did and promptly relocated to an area in the yard Molly had no access to. She would mill around the base of it, and the bird feces penetrated her pads to cause the illness. She got over it quite easily. Good Luck! |
I hope she feels better soon. I don't want to alarm you,and I'm certainly not an expert or anything, but you said her poo is very smelly. Has she been tested for Parvo? |
