Runny stool question... and warning!
 

Last Monday, my 5-pound yorkie at an entire Amarillis bulb (also known as a "Bella Donna Lily") and was violently ill. He threw up about 20 times, had a couple seizures, and spent the night at the Emergency vet hooked up to IV's and catheders. Apparently this type of flower is toxic to dogs, and contains opiates. I was able to take him home about 24 hours later, but he is still on Carafate for his tummy/diarrehha and Pepcid AC. He has been eating chicken, broth and rice only since last monday. (Aside from a TINY amount of peanut butter that I hide his pills in so he'll eat them).

Just this weekend he began to "act" normal again, except he has REALLY runny poop. I don't think it's true diarehha because he only poops 2-3 times a day, but when he does, it's really runny (only a little solid material). I am wondering if you think this is normal, and also what kind of foods you feed your yorkies when they have diarehha/tummy issues. The only other thing I tried feeding him was yogurt, but he will only eat a very little bit of it. I don't know if the chicken/rice combo is causing this, or...?

I really want his stool to harden up because it's worrying me! Thanks for your help.

I usually feed chicken and rice for runny stools. If thats not helping i would ask your vet for meds for it

Is the poop oily like peanut butter? My little Willow got really bad runs from Zukes Natural Peanut Butter Treats. No more peanut butter for us. Hope your little baby is feeling better again real soon. That was a horrible ordeal he had.

I give Cole the W/D prescription diet from Science Diet. You can get it at the Vet. Within 24 hrs his stools are always back to normal. Good Luck!

I've read in here that Pumpkin is good for diarehha & constipation. I give my girls a little piece of cheese when they have a bout of loose stool.
I also got rid of all my plants when I got the girls. Didn't want to take a chance on them getting a leaf and chewing on it.

Thanks so much you guys. I will try the pumpkin and call the vet about getting some prescription food. Trust me, all plants are out of the house as of last week!

I give mine prescription I/D from Science Diet. I always keep a can on hand for when they get runny poop. Usually one can clears it right up.

Soft stools can be caused by a multitude of things.....something he ate.....which usually clears up, pretty fast. Or can be an abundance of bacteria in his digestive tract, which requires meds.

My lil girl started a couple of weeks ago with a slimey stool. Put her on Rice and Chicken and flagyl.....the slime went away but, still had loose stools, took her in for a stool check...no parasites, but vet put her on Albon...a week later her stool is still very soft but formed and she's going to be taken in for a culture to see what bacteria is in her system. Other than soft stool, twice a day, no temp, eating well, and her normal crazy self.

I took Duffy to the vet today because I came home to awful diarehha all over my house after work today :(. He was pretty miserable, and I couldn't believe that it had gotten so much worse in the matter of one day.

The vet said he had bacteria in his stool, so she sent it to the lab to see exactly what it was. He's on antibiotics and Immodium, but he just threw up his first dose. The vet also gave me the I/D Science Diet prescription food, but he won't go near it! He actually gagged when he sniffed it, and started pushing the plate away with his head. He will still eat boiled chicken though, so I guess I'll stick with that. I'm feeling so frustrated, I just want him to be better! Thanks for your help and concern.

Can someone tell me why
 

store brand yogurt, i usually get strawberry. It helps diareah, his poor little guts are probably irritated from the plant & meds. Yogurt is best for that. Hope he's better soon.
