Frankie started limping in the cold today Frankie is a male yorkie, just about to turn 1. he absolutely hates old snow, the cold hard stuff- fresh snow he doesnt mind, he actually runs around and plays in the stuff. current weather: its been around 10 degrees F with about an inch on of hard snow the ground. anyhow, for the last two days ive noticed after he walks in the snow for a minute or two he starts to limp- he holds his back right leg up in the air and hobbles around on 3. He doesnt make any noises but he gets this sad look on his face. I also never take him out for more than 6-7 minutes at a time in the cold. do you think he has a medical issue that needs to be checked out? could it just be that its getting kinda frozen and he doesnt want to touch it to the cold snow again? Hes had regular vet visits, always a clean bill of health- once we get inside he runs around perfectly normally, jumps all over everything and seems as happy as can be. |
When Gracie's paws get cold in the snow she will stand and look at me with her paw up. I think its probably because he paws are cold. I would try getting him some shoes or maybe get him to do his business and go in! Gracie does the same thing but she will usually stop and put her paw up and look at me and I go pick her up. Unless he is limping when he's inside where it is warm I would say its not a vet issue. But if you feel the need the vet is always a good resort! |
It's was 19 here in NJ today and I wouldn't put my dogs out. They're tiny and can't take the cold. I put wee pads on the garage floor and this way it isn't as cold and they are on paper. I still put a sweater on all. I went to the supermarket at 7:30 a.m. and naturally no gloves, my hands were frozen to the cart, can't imagine how a Yorkies paws must feel outside in this weather. If he's running around when thawed out, I would thinmk it's from the cold. Fluffy new snow isn't packed and frozen. |
Cali did the same thing the other day in the snow. Hopefully, that what it's from. |
