I think my pup has worms! Ive noticed small rice like grains in my dogs stool yesterday, Is this an indication of worms? I am so grossed out right now, my vet is gone for the day and wants me to bring in a stool sample tomorrow. Is this a cause for immediate concern? Anyone have experience with worms? Is this contiguous to humans? Any advice or experience would be GREATLY appreciated! |
Its probably tapeworms they can get these by having fleas. I know humans can get worms from dogs but dont know if its tapeworms. My Chachi has had these before. Your vet will give you meds for it |
Your baby will be fine! :ghug: Like the pp said, it is probably just tapeworms! They will give some meds and your furbaby will be all better! |
It only takes one (1) pill from the vet to get rid of them. So it's an easy fix. They come from the pup eating and digesting an infected flea. So be sure to treat your yard or keep her from wherever you think she picked them up. The flea has to be infected and then ingested, so be sure to check her real good for fleas also. It does not come from flea bites and it does not pass to humans, so you're safe and your baby will be fine. :D |

worms Stool checks do not always detect tapeworms...so collect a few actual worms for the vet to look at.. |
Dont worry its very easy to get rid of. My pups had tapeworm the vet gave me powder medicine to mix in the food and the worms are gone :D |

Good job noticing that:cool: . Don't let this gross you out too much. You'd be surprised  what your dog can really gross you out with. |
What happened? Please keep us posted. :aimeeyork That happened to me, but they were smaller than rice, more like lil' white flecks, I freaked..only to find out it was just her food! |
My pup had tapeworms and roundworms a couple of months ago. The vet said he probably got it when he went to the park and ate the soil!! I don't bring him to the park anymore because although I monitor him all the time, he is pretty fast! He will act like he is smelling the ground then wala, eating soil! It caused me so many sleepless nights cleaning his poop and taking care of him. He had to take 2 pills 3 weeks apart to clear them up. |
Tapeworms are easy to get rid of. I have used online meds for my cats(much cheaper than an office visit) and they work fine. But for a puppy, it's better to let the vet check in case there are any other worms lurking around in his little tummy. Hopefully, not. Praying for good results at the vet's. And as far as human's getting tapeworms - I'm pretty sure you are safe unless you eat an infected flea. |
Hey guys thanks so much for your responses:) I took him to the vet and found out he has tapeworms. He got a shot on friday but he still has the worms. I bring him back to the vet Thursday for 1 more shot to kill the eggs. Hopefully it will clear up soon! I feel so bad for him:( Thanks again! |
