Lacey not doing well... Please Help!
 

Lacey is just over 3 months old. We bought her from a pet store 3 weeks ago. She weighs 1.25 pounds. She has had 3 hypoglycemic "events." She has been to the vet 10 times in the 3 weeks we have had her. This is not to mention the surgery to repair an inguinal hernia when she was 2 months old. We have been doing feeds every 2-4 hours over the past 2 weeks. She has been treated for dehydration. Had blood test done for a liver shunt that came back negative. She has also been dewormed. She is on two antibiotics, vitamins, appetite stimulant, and intestinal bacteria replacement... not to mention nutri-cal and a prescription diet.

Here are the other symptoms:

- Not eating or drinking. On rare occasion will eat chicken or pasta on her own... but emphasis is on the word "rare."
- Started peeing while standing up (female dog). Previously did squat.
- Sways while sitting, stares off into space.
- Has a cough.
- Fast/Heavy Breathing
- Has a "Click" when she breathes.
- Sleeps/Lays down 23 hours out of the day.
- Isn't chewing, playing, exploring... or much of anything.
- Has gunky discharge around her eyes.

Any thoughts/help will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you would like to try this recipe to get her strength up:

Hypoglycemia Recipe

1/2 cup half and half
1/2 cup baby rice cereal
1 jar meat baby food, anything but turkey
1 tsp. karo or pancake syrup

Mix together and add a little water if it's too thick for the syringe. Give approximately 2-4 cc's every hour (depending on size), then when the pup is doing better, you can increase the amount and decrease the frequency. After a day or two of this, as long as they are eating this on their own, gradually add softened kibble or canned food and slowly decrease the baby mixture until they are eating the food. Should take a week or so to do the change, to avoid upsetting their tummy. She told me to keep checking her gums, that they should look like a humans, dark pink to red, and her ears should feel warm, not cold at all If I saw gray in her gums, I was to feed immediately and if no improvement in 1/2 hour, to get her to the vet again. And I was told also to keep her warm, so we took turns holding her against our bodies.

FROM THE BOOK " HOWTO BUY AND RAISE A GOOD HEALTHY DOG " BY TERRI SHUMSKY

MIX IN A SAUCE PAN AND COOK TO PUDDING CONSISTENCY, OR DIVIDE RECIPIE IN HALF FOR A SMALLER QUANITY.

2/3-CUP SUGAR,
6 TABLESPOONSCORNSTARCH
1/2-TEASPOON SALT
4 CUPS MILK, OR 1 CAN EVAPORATED MILK WITH EQUAL PARTS WATERTO MAKE A QUART.
4 EGG YOLKS
3 TEASPOONS VANILLA.
FEED WITH A SYRINGE, SPOON OR IN A BOWL.
FULL OF PROTEIN AND VERY NOURISHING.
(HAS NEVER CAUSED DIARRHEA)

I think I would get a second opinion from another vet???

Poor little baby...I hope you find answers...

and just to set your mind at ease - my Chanel pees like a boy - she kicks one leg out - I know that isn't much help but girls can and do stand sometimes....

Good luck ...she's off to a rocky start and I really hope things get better for her...you have my prayers.

Just read this and seen you posted another one! Get her to an ER vet! You need another vet opinion! That poor baby girl! I hope she is feeling better real soon!

I am so sorry your poor baby is having such problems. After just reading your other thread, I could only suggest to get her to the vet...or maybe a second opinion. Poor baby...something isn't right and she sounds as if she's in pain. I'll say a prayer for her!

Oh gosh this doesnt sound good. I see LS has been ruled out..
Is her head shaped funny kinda like domed? Maybe hydrocephelus (water on the brain)
THe cough? Collapsing treacha?
Is she falling over alot? Like unsteady on her feet? (atlantoaxial instability)
Im not a vet just throwing some common yorkie things out there
Whatever is going on I would get a second opinion from a different vet.
Whatever you do please dont return her to the petshop (beleive it or not alot of people do because they dont know what else to do for their puppy)
All they will do is probably resell her and the next person will be dealing with the same issues as you.
I pray you find something to help her quickly. I wish I had some advise to offer that may help but I dont :(
