Cali broke her leg. Okay, I am hoping this posts, as I am typing this on my Treo. I am in Louisiana at my in-laws for Christmas and since they aren't inside pet people, I left Cali with a coworker friend. She was excited to get her, and even though I was worried, I felt confidant she was safe. Well, this morning when I got out of the shower, I noticed I had a missed call--you guessed it, from Cali's sitter. I called her back and she said that Cali fell from her husbands lap and broke her leg!!! She ofcourse felt bad but I on the other hand feel horrible. I feel like I shouldn't have left her....she is only 10 weeks....she needs me and I can't get back to her until the 26th. WHY DID I LEAVE HER??? I should've put up more of a fuss to bring her...I really wanted to put her in a kennel that I was aware of in Baton Rouge, but she is too young to get the Bordetella shot........ugh!!! Everytime I think about it I feel so guilty. can somebody out there tell me what I should expect when I see Cali again? I don't have much information other than it is broken. I have been trying to reach the vet that saw her in ER last night and she has been in surgery and pretty unreachable. the nurse tells me she will call me back. I am so frustrated and sad. And like I said, I hope this goes through. My husband's grandparents do not have the Internet. Thank God for PDA's. Somebody out there tell me something good, PLEASE. |
I have no experience with a broken leg, but please don't beat yourself up. Accidents happen all the time, whether you are there or not. You will get home to your baby soon and be the best mom you can be and nurse little Cali back to health. |
Oh My, I don't have much advice as I have never dealt with this sort of thing before, but I just wanted to say that I am sorry that this happened to your baby. I will definitely be praying for the both of you. I hope she has a very swift recovery.:ghug: Sending hugs your way |
ooo I am so sorry about your baby..... I am sure she will be fine... I havent left Hopey yet but just dont know how I ever will... hehe.... I live near Baton Rouge, maybe we could pup sit swap one day! Sending get well wishes to your baby! d |
Hi, so sorry about your baby. Accidents happen, don't blame yourself. I never had a dog break a leg before and can't offer advice but I'm sure your baby will be fine. ;) |

Thanks everybody for the kind words. Your prayers are needed. |
I'm so sorry this happened to little Cali. I can only imagine how anxious you must be to get back to her. I know I'd be a wreck too! Try not to beat yourself up over this. Some things are just out of our control. Yorkie hugs to you and Cali from Snickers and Baxter. :aimeeyork |
Oh I am so sorry! 1 Attachment(s) Poor widdle Cali!! My Wosie broke her leg when she was 5 months old. She had to have surgery to pin her growth plate back in place, and now she has 3 teeny weeny screws in her leg. But the surgery was a great success, her leg grew normally, and if you could see her leap and run, you would never ever know anything happened. At such a young age, Cali will heal just fine, and may not require surgery, just a cast. If your vet recommends she remain as stationary as possible, you might want to try what I did. I had a front pack that I carried her around in, and she was great. I took her everywhere with me. Here's a pic of the new bag my friend Gina got us for Christmas! |
My Daisy broke her Leg Really Young. Befor she was weaned. My Mom owns her mom and dad. and some time when she was wee little her momma musta sat on her or something. as she grew we noticed she had a slight limp.Well We took her for a x-ray and It showed a old fracture of the bone right in the growth plate. Well other than that leg being about 1/4 inch shorter than the rest she is fine. My mom Never even knew it happened. And she is very pertective of her Babies. Sorry this happened to your Cali. I bet your friend Feels horrable. And Cali will be fine. |
I can imagine how terrible you must feel that this happened and you can't get home just yet. She will be fine. When my Cali was that age she was in and out of the ER vet for overnight stays and I stressed so bad about her being there, but one of the vets told me that the techs and doctors carry the little ones around to comfort them so I felt better. She will just be so happy to see you on the 26th. Also, I would try and explain to the receptionist that you really need to talk to a vet or tech asap. I will keep Cali in my prayers for a complete recovery. |
Quick update: I spoke with the Vet that saw Cali and she told me that Cali's tibia (i guess that's how you spell it) on her back left leg has a very clean break. Her fibula, which is right behind the tibia, kinda acts as a natural splint and supports the other bone. On top of this, she has a little cast on her leg. they expect her to heal fine. I, however, feel like I need to be committed. Padded room and all. I WANNA GO HOME!!! |
Soon!!!!! Try and have a good visit. She is in good hands. |
GREAT NEWS! That she is doing well! I would go crazy wanting to go home! Please let us know how she is doing.... BE SAFE! and YES, anytime you are here... find me! I would be happy to meet-up, or even fur-baby sit.... whats one more when you ahve 5... LOL |
So I know you are to be home today are you feeling better now that you get to see her? How is she doing? |
I hope your puppy is doing well! My puppy had her leg broken at 10 weeks old. We had her two days and my husband didnt see her, and stepped on her. She broke her right leg. A fractured growth plate. We took her to the vet and they said she needed to see an orthopedic surgeon. We took her to the surgeon and he just casted her. I went back once a week to get her cast/bandage changed for three weeks. At three weeks they took an x-ray of her and said the fractured had healed. Good luck! My dear Shena had a pink bandage on her leg it was sooooo cute but sooooo sad! Hope everything works out! Diana |
