Roxi has a corneal ulcer We took her to the vet because we suspected pink eye. The vet said it was an ulcer, almost like an abrasion due to it being shallow. She said that it was almos 2mm in size, and very shallow. She gave her atropine and E-Mycin ointments, and also something for the pain. It's been 6 days and she is still closing her eye through the day. She opens it for a while, after we put ointment in it, but then she closes it after a while. How long does it usually take to heal? I can still see the outline of a small circle right in the middle of her eye, is that normal? Thanks alot-:) |
When I had a Yorkie years ago the vet said if it didn't heal I think in a week or so I would have to take him to an eye specialist at the University Animal Clinic. Karma injured his trying to get under the chain link fence at my parents house. It did heal up fine with the ointment drops though. Good luck. |
Have to give it more time My Spencer had the same thing after a visit to the groomer. I taught myself how to groom him and his brother, so we never have to worry about that. Anyway, vet gave him atropine ointment and antibiotic ointment. The atropine had a very bad effect on him. His pupil was dilated for 16 days! It was like a big wolf's eye glowing in the night. I thought he lost his sight. We were at the vet's every 5 days. The ulcer healed nicely. The vet researched the atropine and said some smaller breeds have this reaction. We only put the atropine into his eye twice! Be more patient than nervous. It took 3 weeks to completely heal, and we kept all the shades drawn and kept the house as dark as possible to avoid the light going into that dilated pupil. He was not allowed outside. As long as your baby is making progress, that's fine. If the ulcer is not on it's way to healing, then by all means, see a specialist. It's very scary. In my thoughts and prayers. Let us know how it all goes. |
Thanks guys! She is looking a bit better today! She has held her eye open for most of the day. The atropine does cause her pupil to look HUGE! Can I bathe her while she is healing? I am kinda hesitant cause the vet said that some ulcers are caused by irratants from the shampoos! Thanks again-:) |
