Questions for after-neuter care - pls help! Hey everyone, haven't been around here for a while, but I need some help. Rex was neutered today (finally, his bloodwork came back normal so he got the snip two days before his 3rd birthday), and I just got him home. Of course, he's really out of it, and it's heartbreaking to see, although I know it's normal. Does anyone have any pointers on what I can do for the next few days to keep him comfortable and keep me calm? Oh yeah, he also had two teeth extracted, a full dental, and he was microchipped, so he's probably more sore than a pup would be for just a neuter. Thanks in advance for your help and for reading this! Kerry |
Aww, poor dude! He'll actually probably be bouncing around tomorrow:laugh: Do your best to keep him calm and don't let him lick his stitches. His mouth might be a little sore, so if he won't eat his kibbles, soften them for him with some water, or give him a little wet food (if he doesn't normally get the runs from it). I hope he feels better soon:) |
Thank you so much, Tracy - and great hint for the dry kibble - I will definitely keep that in mind! |
You're welcome:) I hope your baby is feeling much better very very soon:love:! |

I feel like I can offer some advise to you as my Harry has just gone through this two weeks ago. He's one year old, and he got the snip and SIX teeth extracted!!! Poor baby! When we got him home he couldn't even stand up to pee pee! Anyways, I just suggest making sure you give him his pain meds for the first few days. Cuddle him a lot, and feed him some soft food if his mouth seems sensitive. Harry was as spunky as we had ever seen him the morning after he got fixed which may not be the 'norm'. |

The vet advised the pain meds for at least 4 days, maybe all 6, depending on Rex's demeanor, and he took one tonight with no problem, so that's good! We've been cuddling the heck out of him, as he's been whining and whimpering a little bit (I think he's just confused about how he's feeling). I'm looking forward to how he acts in the morning - although the subdued version of Rex is nice and relaxing, I miss my spunky little furball! Thanks again for your thoughtfulness and for answering me! Kerry |
How's Rex doing this morning? I'm hopeing he is feeling much better this morning! |
How is Rex today? When Mojo got neutered, we bought a small baby onesie to put on him so he wouldn't bother his stitches. This helped alot. We didn't do the glue because the vet said he would probably have to wear a collar tube thing for that because glue makes it itchy down there. We did the stitches that we didn't have to go back and have removed. Mojo was back to his normal self in no time...actually, when we picked him up after having it done, it was like nothing was done to him.....it didn't bother him. Mojo didn't have any teeth pulled this time, but he had baby teeth pulled last year.......he didn't eat much or drink much for awhile and just didn't act himself, which is normal. We did boiled chicken/broth/rice awhile and broth/chicken w/ his kibble. He finally came around, but I remember it was awhile. Good luck and I hope Rex is feeling better today.....let us know! Sending hugs and kisses to that little guy!!! |
