Sore from cat's claw Penny played over Thanksgiving weekend with my brother's cat and dog. She and the cat got along great and play constantly. Monday morning I found a sore just to the side of her nose. It was red and swollen, almost resembling a blood blister. It did not drain when I checked it. It has scabbed once or twice but the swelling/pressure seemed to be slowly going down. Tonight I noticed it is large and very pink/red again. I cleaned it with a bit of peroxide but obviously can't keep salve on it as she will just lick it off. It's been a week and a half. How long should I expect it to take to heal? When my husband's hand was torn up from cat scratches a few years ago, it took quite awhile to heal. He had to go on antibiotic, in fact, for an infection. Any tips? Any suggestions as to what I can do for her? Should I try a warm compress? |
Sounds infected to me, poor baby:( I'd take her to the vet, or at least give them a call. They may want to put her on an antibiotic, since that place is too "lick-able" for a topical ointment. I hope it's all better soon:love: |
I appreciate the response. I called and spoke with the vet's office today. For now, I am just going to watch her and give it time to heal (can take 1-4 weeks, depending on location and such). If it gets dirty, I am to cleanse with mild soap and water. No peroxide, I learned, as it can damage the new tissue that is growing. |
