PARVO RAMPANT IN Southern Calif. Jack just told me he read in the local newspaper about Parvo being rampant and also kennel cough here in our area and in Southern Calif. Vets and animal emergency's said there is many more cases being reported for this time of year, that usually the parvo is in the summer, they believe that people are not getting their dogs the Parvo and neccessary shots. :( This is so scarey. They say it is a real epidemic right now. Please watch for any symptoms if you live in this area and also if you have traveled through the areas in Southern Calif. Please be extra careful. GOOD POST Baby B !!!!!! Someone here just lost all her puppies :( :( and another lost her dogs to parvo after she brought home a little chi from a shelter to care for due to her size - it's HORRIBLE and so scary - for those with very young dogs remember the vaccine does NOT ensure you are ok - that means ...NO TAKING that baby out till their older and have had all their shots - and always be very careful about where you take them ! Your best defence is OFFENSE - read up about it and BE AWARE OF THE FIRST SIGNS ! |
This is a good reminder, Baby Blessing and Villette, because it does seem there are alot of parvo occurences right now. There is also a canine influenza virus out there to be aware of. You just have to be careful of where you take your dogs and what dogs they come in contact with, it is scary. The girl that brought home the chi, did have her dogs vaccinated previously. So, we know a vaccination is not always a guarantee they are protected. |
to offer a possible reason WHY parvo is so rampant - I have a feeling that since the price of small breeds is so out of hand - dogs now to being smuggled across the border and sold like drugs. :thumbdown High priced small breeds are now such a money maker that they're coming in from Mexico and sold at flea markets... or to so called BRREEDERS/Brokers ....who in turn are selling them to the public.... where they can infect other dogs they come in contact with ...... Texas is seeing higher numbers too - I feel SO sorry for the puppies of the world these days - People used to sell puppies at a reasonable price...but the higher the prices go - the more people are jumping on the bandwagon - which is BAD BAD BAD FOR ALL Dogs. edited to add - this is ONLY MY OPINION - not fact - just something to think about |
This Is Aweful. I Hope Someone Gets A Handle On This |
You know, I'm probably just a worry wart, but even though my babies are all vaccinated, I never let them touch the floor at the Vets office. I take a pee pad for them to stand on the scales even. They have to disenfect the exam table so I can see them do it and even with my Golden, I save old socks to put on her feet and then throw them away. I know my Vet is very good, very clean, but there are so many dogs and cats that visit him, I just can not take the chance. They never have said anything to me, since they know my fears and how precious my babies are to me. |
That's so scary! How sad people have to loose their pets because some don't get their pets vaccinated. I know there have been a few YT'ers who lost their pets to Parvo recently. So sad! Carol & Buddy |

YIKES! That is scary stuff. I saw a dog suffering from that once...not a pretty site. It was put down, sadly.:( I hope that everyone in Southern Cal is taking the proper precautions to prevent it from happening to their furkids....like making sure they are up to date with their vaccinations!;) |

Parvo is an issue here in Michigan also. Winter cold doesn't kill the germ. When I take the babies to the vet I don't let the desk staff or techs handle them unless they have washed and sanitized their hands. I also take my own pad to cover the table and they don't go on the floor. They understand because they have seen what parvo can do. |
I never let mine go on the vets floor either. I have not thought about the scales or the examining table tho. it never even crossed my mind. I reckon I vest get his old brain to thinking more. thanks you all for the idea. |
my chelsea had all her puppy shot including parvo. Since I recently sign up for one of the petsmart class, should I be worry ? She is 5 months old. Also where in Southern CA is the outbreak ? |
