So glad to hear your baby is gaining weight! Have you tried puppy supplement milk replacement yet? You can also mix it with warm water and serve it to her in a dish. I added a bit of honey to the supplement and I contribute this to saving one of my puppies. I offered a warm dish of it 3 times a day along with other feedings and the puppy flourished and gained weight where they just wouldnt before. I offered the supplement at least once a day until they were over 4 months of age. THe improvement in the puppies energy level was amazing after just a few days of the "milkshake" Im a real advocate of milk replacment even for older pups. Keep up the good work! |
I have been using the milk replacement mixed in with her food. I have been having a little bowl of food near her for the past few days and she would never touch it on her own. About 2 minutes ago she went over and just started eating. I am so excited. Now she is laying down again, but I don't care. To see her go and eat because she wanted to made me so happy. Yeah Gidget!!!!!!! |

YAY! This is GREAT news!!!!!!!!! Let her sleep as much as she wants. When I brought my babies home, all they would do is eat, sleep, and potty. |
That is great news!!! |

It sounds like this is one of the posters babies and out of the litter she is the tiny one and is having a time feeding her Do you not realize that when Mom is done nursing -she is done ! Please don't be hard on her - this poster is trying to get good info here not to be critisized for having such a tiny when it appears it was born to her dog and trust me - I know that when 4 to 6 or so weeks go by and the mama dog doesn't want anything else to do with those pups - she gets way and thats the time us human moms have to take over. |
YAY, looks like she's turned the corner:D!!!! I bet you'll start seeing a much spunkier girl pretty soon:thumbup: Hugs to you both:love:! |
I would warm the puppy milk and leave it in a bowl for her just to drink.Glad she is doing better. |
Yeah Gidget!! Keep going little girl - gobble up that food and then rest and gobble up some more!! Way to go Mom - keep up the great work!!!! How far is Anderson from Myrtle Beach? I'm going to MB mid-January to visit my son for a very quick weekend - maybe I could stop in and see her if not too far away???? |
:) I read all the posts in this link! I am so happy for your little Gidget! Go Go Gidget Go!!:p |
Anderson is about 5 hours from Myrtle Beach. We are in the Upstate of SC. I hope you have a great time with your son. |
I am going through something very similar with my baby right now. He is under a lb and 8.5 weeks old..we had a hypoglycemia episode on the first day and took him to the vet and now feed him every 2 hours and well as give him small doses of honey for energy..my little guy wouldn't drink water at first and so syringing it was becoming heartbreaking but he just started the next day and thank you God because being dehydrated would have been horrible.. We are praying for Gidget...please pray for Stoli...he won't eat during the day...but we have found luck with my roommates DOG food...my vet gave us the ok and said let him eat it...I think he found the dog food while meeting my roomies baby and they bonded and he likes to eat when she does..needless to say she will be a fatty if I have it my way to get the little guy to eat. It is such a tough thing to have to force food down their throats like this but mandatory...my baby sleeps all day long also. I have to wake him for his feedings... I did buy mine from a breeder but I am willing to put the time and money, effort, tears and countless hours into my little man and I feel like anyone who would sell a little guy like mine isn't as responsible or caring as I am willing to be. She should not have seperated him from his mother but she said the momma wouldn't have anything to do with him...he is 8.5 weeks and they are usually (not always from what I have read) done with the babies between 4-6 weeks...I feel like if a human mommy has to take over..I am willing to give it everything I have...I have fallen in love and know you have also... Good luck and keep me posted..share any good news and breakthroughs with food and such and I will do the same. You guys are in my prayers!! |
Gidget has had a pretty good day. She seems to want to eat more on her own in the morning, but tonight I had to syringe feed her again because she is refusing to eat. We are still giving her the milk replacement, as well as the baby food formula and meat sticks. She also likes the chicken. More than anything she just wants to cuddle in my neck and sleep. Her sister and brothers want to play with her, but they just knock her down. Yes I love my Gidge so much. She will definately be one spoiled little girl when we get through this. |
Keep at it Gidget!! With any luck, she'll be eating completely on her own in a few more days. Keep being such a good Mommy Amy!!! |
Gidget is having a bad day. She won't eat anything on her own and she has diarrhea again. She seems much weaker again today than yesterday. I will keep you all up to date. |
Awww, poor baby:cry: Can you give the vet a call? Was she tested for parasites? I hope and pray that she'll be okay:hands: |
Oh, lots of well wishes going to Gidget! I'm sorry to hear she's not doing well today. Keep her hydrated and if she continues having diarahea I would take her to the vet to get something to stop it. With the little ones that can deplete their systems so fast! Lots of prayers going for Gidget right now! |
Ask you vet about giving her some Pepto. Will she drink just warm milk?(puppy milk) Poor thing. I hope she gets better soon. |
How is Gidget doing tonight? We're still thinking of and praying for her to eat, gain some weight and find some energy. |
This post just breaks my heart. I am soooo sorry for you and your precious baby Gidget. How is she right now? Have you been able to get her to eat anymore? I am praying for you both!!! :aimeeyork |
How is Gidget doing? I can't stop thinking about her and I love that name!!!! I hope she is eating more and that her sugar went up :animal36 |
Make sure she still has a heating pad to keep warmth in her body. If the others are much larger, how about letting her have her mom all alone for periods. Maybe she will nurse more. I had to do this when I had a little one who the rest were hogging the food from. |
awww! i have read every post and my heart is with you. My vet suggested getting a heat lamp for my kikko, he is 13 wks @ 0.7kg (~1.5 lbs). I haven't had the chance with the heat lamp yet though, but I use it on my parrots during the winter. I hope gigdet feels better soon, and keep up the good work .. you're a wonderful mommy to her. :luvu: |
here is something that might work... i was told to mix either stat solution or milk replacement with water and pinches of wet puppy food when they could not eat and feed them through a syringe gently with the mixture through the side of their mouth. it worked well with my baby Indiana and kept him alive when he was a real tiny baby...perhaps this will be helpful when your baby has bad spells. you might try it or ask your vet...it fills them up and gives them both food and water...and many nutrients too...we will be praying for your baby!!! ~Tru |
Not good news I took Gidget to another vet yesterday, because she woke up limping and my vet wouldn't see her. This new vet drew blood and said he thinks she has a liver shunt. He said her liver enzymes were extremely elevated. Also, he was very concerned because I guess her bones are not developing like they should and that is why she hurt her foot, and is also why she is so tiny. He said in a pup her age her soft spot on her head she be almost gone, but she still has 3 very large ones. The prognosis is not good. I know my husband and I can not afford a $2000 surgery, so we are just going to do whatever we can, and love her for as long as we can. She has been eating better and has gained another ounce. (10oz now), but I guess that doesn't matter now that she has been diagnosed with the shunt. I don't know much about them so I am going to start doing a lot of research. Keep my Gidget in your prayers. |

BTW, I was at PetSuppliesPlus yesterday and they have an indoor/outdoor automatic heating pad for both dogs and cats. It sold for $44. |
Amy, I'm so sorry:cry:! There is lots of info about shunts out there, hopefully it will all help you give her the longest healthiest life possible. I am no help in that area, but will keep Gidget in my prayers:hands: |
i am so sorry. this is aweful and i hope and pray everything works out. have you contacted the person you got her from??? |

I'm so sorry ....and shame on that vet for not seeing her the other day - it sounds like you DID need another vet... |
I am so sorry to hear that! Don't give up hope though! Check out that sight V gave you, my sisters boxer had cancer and needed surgery and wasn't able to afford the costs and her vet wouldn't see her unless she had enough for a down payment and she was able to raise the money. Maybe if you got a down paymen made you could put the rest on a payment plan. Poor Gidget, be strong little girl, things will get better soon! |
