Legges-Perthes-disease Hello Everyone, I was wondering if any of yours dogs have ever experienced with this condition before. If so, I would like to know more information. |
Abbie is undergoing surgery on the 12 for Perthes. My vet said was genetic and does not surface until between 3-12 months. We first notcied Abbie;s limp about a month ago @ 8 months old :( My vet said that with this surgery she should be just fine and stop limping. Now we just have to pray that it does not develop in the other hip. The surgery ( in NJ) will cost us about $2500. It's gonna be a lean lean christmas here, but Abbie will be better and that is what counts. PS: Her surgeon was on and episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy last season, Christian Hunt |
Yes, I know I am in the same situation as you are. My Miko is getting surgery next Wednesday and I am worried and scared since he is only 9 months old. I hope after the surgery he can walk again. I wish for the best for Abbie. |
I had a Yorkie many years ago that was diagnosed at 10 months with this condition. She had surgery and was fine after recovery. She had no issues afterwards. She lived until 12 yrs. when she was diagnosed with cancer. They didn't have chemo for dogs back then. It had to be about 25 yrs. ago. I always am a wreck when they need surgery. I wish all a speedy recovery. |
I will keep Miko in my prayers. PrettyPinkPup- Thank You for letting us know how a dog can be post surgery. |
I purchased my first yorkie from YORKIEBABIEDOLLS.COM from Don Montgomery. The picture on the site was of a healthy, very cute, tiny male. I asked him for references which he did provided from other owners from the same litter. I thought everything was ok. What I received at the air port was a 3 pound starved pup, ridden with coccidia, a second row of teeth, and in very poor health. But it gets worse; 2 months later he starts limping on his back leg. He was diagnosed with leg-calf Perthes disease and required a major surgery. This disease is inherited from this parents or someone in his parents line, I told Don about this yet he still breeds both the parents EVERY SINGLE HEAT!!! He also has many many other females whom he breeds every heat they go into, and he thinks these kind of breeding practices are ok. Make sure you tell the breeder you got yopur yorkie from so they can stop breeding the parents, they are carring the disease. My dog is fine now!!! |

I wonder if the puppy lemon laws would cover this disease... |
what is puppy lemon laws??? |
Th women that Abbie came from will pay up to what we paid for Abbie and then we do have pet insurance that will cover the rest. There is a reason that we pay about $100 a month in premiums for the two girls.....when stuff like this happens you are covered |
what pet insurance covers diseases? I did reseach on the one that gives you a 60 day free trial with your AKC registration and they only cover accidents, like if your dog gets hit by a car. Are you sure you know what you are talking about? |
Yes I do. I have Pet Care Insurance double coverage. The only thing that it does not cover is anything that presents itself in the first thirty days of the policy. If something presents itself during the first thirty days then it is not covered for the first year. Abbie did not show symptoms until October we got her and the insurance in July. Again I pay over $100.00 a month to cover both my girls. There are policys out there (for as little as $8.00 a month) that do only cover accidents. I did my research and decided that I would rather be sure that I had coverage in case of a situation like this then just have acccident coverage. Between this surgery for Abbie and Gracie's colitis I have more than made up for what I have paid out. |
