but.... you WANT TO RULE everything else out and IF I were you - I'd brave the streets - it's 8 miles ?? you can do it and PLEASE let us know how he is - it seems we're seeing lots of tummy problems and in MOST cases - it's nothing - but better be safe than sorry.... |
Here is an update. It looks like the conditions here have improved and it was above freezing...The reason I could not go anywhere last night was not snow really so much as ice, and the neighborbood I live in is surrounded by hills that were as a result all closed, so we had no way out, and to drive would have just put us in more danger... The emergency vets office was no help when I called. So I left a message for our regular vet..This morning she called us back, of course not until after I stayed up all night just staring at him. Basically she suspects it is a bowel irritation...So I have collected a stool and we are headed into the vet in about an hour... Basically she said that it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY he would have parvo as he does not have a fever (and yes I put him through the discomfort of taking his temp), he is still very energetic and could even be describe as wild and is eating and drinking normally with no vomiting. So her verdict is that it is most likely a parasite such as coccidia, or bowel irritation. We shall see and I will let everyone know! Thank you all for the advice and support! |
Hi, I just now came across your post. I hope your little baby is ok. It really sounds like giardia to me. My one baby had this when I first got her and all the symptoms your describing sound like it. I'm no vet and so many things they can get have similar symptoms. I really hope your baby is ok and we'll keep you guys in our prayers. ;) |

What a relief!!!!! I am so happy the vet was able to offer the good news that it most likely is NOT parvo! WHEW! Hootie had coccidia once and her symptoms were exactly what Bruce's symptoms are....extremely watery poop with a tiny bit of blood, but still eating, drinking, and playing normally and no vomitting. Her coccidia was cleared up very fast with antibiotics. GOOD LUCK at the vet! Please keep us updated! |
Hey! I'm just checking in to see if Bruce is feeling any better:) please give him a hug for me! |
Don't worry Allison he just has an irritated colon and tummy, it's called gastro intestinitus. Coco gets it when she's gotten into something she's not supposed to. She gets bloody stool, diarrhea, bloody vomit, ect. But she is high energy eats, drinks and plays just perfect. They usually give her 1 weeks worth anti-biotics and a bland diet is recommended. Take away any bones, or edible nyla bones. When I posted here a lot of people scared me, by saying it was parvo but I think his diarrhea would have to have green goo (sorry that's gross) and a lot of other issues. When I went to the vet I felt a lot better. They gave her lomitil and this bland food by Science Diet called I/D. As long as he is eating and drinking fine, I would just keep an eye on him. Coco's symptoms lasted like 4 days  If you need help call me. |

How's Bruce? |
My Furkids all had the same thing........ One furkid at a time..:( What a Nightmare. . It was just a little virus.. the blood was from their bowel being irritated from the loose poops.. I made them boiled chicken with rice.. and in a day or 2 they one at a time were fine.. If hes eating.. drinking and acting fine.,., it just may be alittle tummy virus.. I always have nutrical/nutri stat on hand....I gave then just a tad with their chicken and rice meals.. Hope hes okay.. |
Any word on Eddie\'s favorite Yorkie? |
Nobella, YOU WERE SO RIGHT!!! Bruce just has a touch of IBS, and is totally acting fine and already feeling better I think. He has a week of antibiotics and a bland diet, kibble and white rice until we see the vet again in a couple weeks! THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND ADVICE!!! Especially you Nobella, you calmed me down an awful lot! Eddie can rest assurd that Bruce is doing GREAT!!! |

Wonderful news! I\'m so glad he\'s feeling better! These babies can scare us to death, can\'t they? |
You are very welcome Allison :D You know how much Coco loves Bruce, we just had to chime in with our experiences. I\'ve gotten so worried in the past and shelled out a ton of money for blood panels and stuff and it just ended up being that. So I didn\'t want you to get all panicked like I did the first few times. It happens at least 2-3 times a year with Coco  I hope he\'s feeling better today :p Give him kisses from us :D |
I am so glad to hear that your baby is well! |
