Best for diarrhea? hi, was wondering if pepcid is good for diarhhea or should i try pepto? my little guy had a vomit problem 2 months ago and the vet had me get him pepcid, but yesterday he began to have diarhhea(probable 2-3 times since yesterday). I know i read here in the past to use pepto, but i just wanted to see if pepcid helps with diarhhea as well:confused: |
I have only used Pepto Bismol in the past. Buddy is 13lbs and vet said to use 1/2 teaspoon 15mins before feeding so it's coats the stomach. Also take him off his food and cook chicken and rice until his stools harden then graudally add back his food. Hope he feels better soon. I have read on here that pumpkin is good also. |
I give about a tablespoon of canned pumpkin -- not pie filling. |
I give Pepto and a bland diet. The diet consists of boiled chicken or white meat turkey (very lean), white or brown rice, scrambled eggs and/or cottage cheese. Gracie loves baby food chicken mixed up with some white rice. Give this diet at each meal until your baby has two days with normal BMs, then return to regular diet. |
My zoe has a very sensitive stomach and get diarhea all the time. boil white rice and water until stew like (the starch hardens their stool) add chicken breast in the rice to give it a little taste. You baby will LOVE it and the diarhea will cease within days. Trust me this works!! PM me with any questions |
I just use the boiled chicken and white rice, don't like to use medications. Pepto is basically aspirin and using too much or too often can cause ulcers. The typical dose administered to dogs is 0.5 to 1.5 ml per pound per day (1 to 3 ml/kg/day). The total daily dose should be divided into two to four doses. This amounts to approximately 1 teaspoon (5 ml total) per 5-pounds per day, ideally split between two to four doses. Pepcid will be of no help for diarrhea. It is for stomach acid which causes a yellow foamy vomit - if vomiting in the morning, usually helped by feeding early and giving a late night snack before bedtime.
