Blinking Eye and Snorting Hi everyone! So my baby Sophie has an eye problem. About a month ago she had a foxtail removed from her eye... removal went fine, recovery too. But ever since her last follow up about two weeks ago, her eye has been blinking and seems like she can't open it all the way. Some days is better, some days its worse. So we have her wearing a cone and we continue to give her the eye ointment that was perscribed for her since she also had a scratch from the foxtail on her cornea. I would bring her back to her original vet, but they have a lot of complaints filed against them and i had really bad service the last time i went there, previous to her eye incident we had no problems with them. So, today is saturday and most vets are already closed, except for our original vet. SO I'm stuck between a rock and hard place on whether to take her there again. ALSO, since she had her last f/u appt. she has been honking more than usual and now it even happens at night while shes getting ready to sleep. I wonder if she got kennel cough from there or not. She was boarded at the vet two full days and one night. ( Now she did the snorting thing when excited of drank water to fast, but now its just random times throughout the day) I just dont know what to do. It worries me to wait till monday, but it worries me just the same to bring her to the same vet. ARGH! what should i do guys? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! |
I don't know what to tell you so I will bump this up and hopefully someone can help you!! |
Im not sure on the eye problem or what to do about the vet situation but Im sure someone here will. When she snorts does it sound like a little piggy, is she snorting in through her nose? If so it could just be a reverse sneeze, Pete does this pretty frequently sometimes when hes drinking too fast or he's playing or for no reason at all. Reverse sneezing (if this is the case) is completely harmless and not to worry about. Hopefully your little baby will feel better soon, maybe you could just call the vet over the phone and see what they say since they are your only option at this point. Good Luck |
I think Danielle has a good idea, call the vet. They may tell you that it's okay to wait for Monday, and then you could get a new vet. Find a local breeder of Yorkies online and call them up and ask for a recommendation. That's what I did and I'm thrilled with our new vet:D! I hope that your baby's eye feels better soon, poor darling:cry: |
okay... called the vet.. said it doesn't seem like an emergency. The sneezing is probably reverse sneezing and the eye can probably wait till monday. Though they said if the eye seems like its oozing or closes completely to bring her into the Emergency clinic. I'm just a worried mommy. Though Sophie is doing okay, just a little whiny that she has to wear the cone. Eating, drinking, playing is all regular, so i think she'll be okay till monday. thanks guys! I was just concerned with the snorting cuz she never really did it this much before, and it just seems like its so hard for her to stop doin it. I am also afraid that she may have something lodged in her nose, but she isnt sneezing or pushing her head into anything. we'll see on monday.. Ill update afterwards. thanks everyone |
my boyfriend took sophie to the vet yesterday ( i had to work) Anyway, Vet said she has a scratch on her eye and she has allergies so she has some BNP ointment and also we had to get her childrens benadryl ( about .5cc to 1.0cc). Shes fine now. just has to wear her cone for 10 days. I feel so much better now. thanks for the support everyone! |
Glad to hear she's okay! |
Don't worry about the snorting. All three of my little dogs have done this. My Bichon does it every night when I come home from work - because he gets so excited. And - now I'm noticing my Yorkie doing it for no good reason every once in a while. And another little dog of mine did it often also. It is nothing to worry about - just let them deal with it and it will go away as suddenly as it started. I think the first few times it happened to all my dogs, it frightened them --- so I held them or petted them and comforted them. But now they're used to it - and it doesn't bother them at all - it just comes and goes.... Carol Jean |
