Oh no!! New puppy in distress! I have been heavily monitorting the 4 new puppies (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57825) making sure everyone was getting enough milk when this morning I checked on them, one of my tiny boys was cool to the touch and not moving very much. I picked him up and gently rubbed him and warmed him up and tried for 2 hours to get him to nurse or eat from a botle, or take it froma syringe. Well, I failed. His skin is wrinkling up b/c he is dehydrated and I called the vet. The lady working (who is a friend) told me to bring him in and she would give him some fluid and try to get him to eat as well. When I handed him to her she said he didnt look well. When he was born, he had a patch on his head where hair didnt grow in. Well, they felt it and said there was fluid under his skin there on his tiny little head. OMG I am so upset! I am never breeding again. I am so stresses out over this. Please keep 'Tiny Timmy' in your thoughts today and hope that he pulls through this. |
I"m so sorry, I hope he pulls through. He's in my prayers. |
Oh no!! That poor sweet boy. He will definitely be in my prayers -- as well as you. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I hope this little angel recovers. :( |

I'm so sorry...I don't think I could handle that either and all the best to the little guy !! I hope he pulls thru this |
***UPDATE***** I just picked him back up from the vet. He is a NEW puppy! They gave him some fluids and gluclose and after about 1 hr he stated taking milk from a dropper!!! I brought him home and he LATCHED on TIGHT to momma!! YAY! Now lets hope he stays this way!! Big thanks you all your support... <3 |

I'm glad he is doing better. What are they going to do about the fluid... will it go away? Also, I had a cat who became dehydrated and listless once because she became anemic... they did the same to her, fluid and electrolyte replacement... back to her old sneaky self within 24 hours! :) |
Aw I'm soo happy to hear he's doing better! I hope he continues his progress :) |
Wonderful news!  Oh, there really is a LOT to breeding and raising puppies. Mine were born on 9-26 and I still jump and run to see who made some little noise I heard (regardless of the TV being too loud because my husband is hard of hearing) with my "puppy hearing" abilities. They are worth every second though...I truly enjoy it tremendously! :D |
YAY!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy that he's okay:D!!!! |

I'm so happy for you! I'll remember Tiny Timmy in my prayers. |
Glad he's doing so well. Keep checking him for dehydration by looking at his gums, they should be a healthy pink like the other pups, not light or white. Also "pinch" the skin at the scruff of his neck, it should spring back in place, if it stays "tented" or hunched up then take him back in for another round of fluids until you can get him over this weak period. Hopefully, he doesn't have hydrocephalus. If he does, it actually may worsen with the introduction of fluids, but, of course, hydration is necessary or he will not make it. |
Hooray! I'm sure he will be running around and being very silly - :animal36 very soon! |
I actually have the fluids here to give him. The vet gave me 4 syringes full of the glucose stuff. I have already gave him half of another just to be safe. He took it no problem. Then he crawled down there and got him a little boobie and didnt move til he fell asleep and fell off! LOL He is doing soo much better. I wouldnt say he is out of the woods completely but he is very close. Thanks for all the well wishes! |
that is wonderful news:) |
I'm so happy Tiny Timmy is doing so well. Sending prayers for continued health for all your babies, bless their little hearts. |
I just now read this thread. I'm so glad he's doing better. Keep up the good work. |
Glad to hear Tiny Timmy is doing better! That must have been frightening -- they are so tiny, fragile and dependent. I went to see the little female I am going to get on her 3rd day -- I could not believe how small she was. If my male and female live up to their pedigrees, I will try a litter of puppies. But I will need some mentoring -- so much to know! |
