Infection 3 months after spay I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else after they got their puppy spayed. I thought I took Coco to a vey good vet but it has been 3 months and now she has an infection along the incision. Its is really swollen and looks awful. At first it was just a little red and pussy, (I even felt like i was overreacting when I took her to the vet)...I took her to the vet and they said it was from the stitches desintegrating and that her body is attacking them. They gave me a cream and an antibiotic to give her and she got better withit a few days so we discontinued using it. But now the infections suddenly looks REALLY bad. It is really swollen and red and ugly. I have been putting the cream on her belly and giving her the antibiotic. Has anyone else ever heard of this happening?? I think I am going to take her to get a second opinion. Any advice? Thank you! |
I never heard of a dog getting an infection THREE MONTHS after being spayed. I would definitely bring her to another vet for a second opinion. I hope your baby gets better very soon!! |
Definatly bring her for a second opinion. That just can't be right - 3 months going on! Please keep us posted on her recovery :) |
Thanks for the advice. That is what I thought too. She has an appointment in a couple of hours so we will see. I will keep you posted. |
How is Coco doing? Please update when you get a minute. |
She is still trying to fight off her infection but it is getting better. I took her in for a second opinion and they said that this does commonly happen. (I guess when the sutures start to disentregrate their bodies can attack them because they are a foreign body.) There was a few days that were scary because she was throwing up everywhere. The vet did blood work to make sure she didn't have an internal infection and that come back negative. I am relieved that it wasn't too serious but she has still been running around with her cone on her head to for two weeks and her belly is still not healed. Coco is doing good though and her spirits are up even though she still has about another week with a cone on her head. Thanks for your thoughts. |
