wheezing/coughing I did not sleep again last night. Worried of Siu Pao. He was wheezing and even when he sleeps, he wheezes. It stops only when he is in deep sleep.Spmetimes it sounds like a cough, but when he sleeps it sounds more like a wheeze. He is eating this morning though. Anyone knows what is wrong with my little guy? The only thing I have changed in the past few days is putting fleece lining to his bed. Anyone has any ideas of what is happening? |
Just to add a note. He doesn't wheeze as much when he is up playing. Its more to just before he sleeps and right after waking up. |
I guess not many people are logged in the forum yet. Another update:Got an appointment with the vet later. Crossing my fingers that everything will be okay. |
Hoping that someone could reply my thread...Siu Pao is sound asleep now..he seems to snort more during the night..just a few episode and then he drops to sleep with a little wheeze and then all quiet. I just found this website from another thread and checking out the difference between a collapse trachea and reverse sneezing..I think he leans more towards reverse sneezing but I am not sure..sigh.. http://www.glassyorkies.com/ Also, I think he may be allergic to his new fleece in his bed, or due to the cold although he had two layers of coat on when we went out yesterday and he ended up being in his carrier bag because he was cold. I really don't know which is it and I am worried..my vet appointment is in another hour and half and I am so worried :( |
GOOD luck at the vet - I would change the bed if that's the only thing different - but wanted to tell you - the reverse sneeze is really easy to hear - wheezing is a totally different sound. Think of reverse sneezing like a snorting noise - they stand different - they snort really LOUD and and it almost sounds like hyperventilating - both my girls do it and the first time I heard it I FREAKED. you can stop them from doing it by gently closing off the nostrils so they breath thru their mouth - I found kissing works just as well too :) good luck and I hope he feels better |

Thank you for replying...I am really not sure..I never had a dog with reverse sneezing nor wheezing so I am not really sure. I only know what a seizure is like. I guess its a good thing that we are going to the vet. He is sleeping and I hear slight wheezing sound right now so it might not be reverse sneezing. |
We are back from the vet. He is still wheezing a little but the doctor said that his lungs and trachea are all good. Doctor said that he is too young to have allergies or asthma and ruled it out. The best he could come to is someone smoking near him or a construction site with all the debris flying around. my hubby do smoke but always smokes outside, never near him so I guess it must be the debris from the building construction across our street but could it be that bad? We have had walks ever since I got him a month ago. Why now that he starts to wheeze? I have no idea..so made a trip..paid the consultation fee...for nothing and he still wheezes. Plain weird *shrug* |
Piper was doing this also. Vet said the same thing. I got a humidifyer and ran it at night. She no longer does it. |
Wheezing and Coughing Hi, My Webster also sometimes wheezes and coughs at times, I took him to the vet. He diagnosed sinus and tonsilitis. The glands will be swolen on the sides of the neck if it is tonsolitis .He prescribed medication, something like sinolox, that helped quickly. I now knows what to do if it happens again, and it is in the middle of the night whenever his coughing a lot I give him a little bit of sinumax for babies, only about 1ml. That seems to help quickly and the discomfort dissapears after a few minutes. I know not everybody will not agree to human medication for dogs, but my vet assured me that if you don't overdo it they will be fine. It is also important to help them get fluids in, all the coughing causes a sore throat. I normally uses a syringe and give him water with that, this is just to make sure they get fluids in.
