Going to Vet Hospital for Bioscophy Samson, is my 5 year Yorkie that is scheduled to get a bioscophy of his trachea on Tuesday to determine the cause for his breathing /snoring noise. My vet referred him to the specialist. We are not sure if it is a collapsed trachae or some type of other respritory problem. He has great energy and healthy otherwise. Has anyone had experience with the this procedure. It is very scary since they will have to put him to sleep. If you have done it can you give me your estimate of cost. Cash is tight, but we will do it for him. Greatly appreciate your thoughts and of course prayers. William Bowles Bedford, Texas |
My last yorkie, Gracie had a bronchoscopy for collapsed trachea at a specilaists and did fine afterr surgery, This was 10 years ago and it cost if I remember 350.00. I will keep your baby in my prayers. |
Samson going to hospital for bronchoscopy Dear Friend, You are so brave and trusted your animal doctor to correct this very distressing aliment. I have a thing (fear) about putting Samson under for the procedure. Did your doctor repair the trachea or put in some devise to correct the collapse? Sounds real involved. Wow! the price of $350 was a good one. Did a specialist do the procedure or your vet? Were there any side affects after she come home?Frankly, I have not hear many Yorkie owners doing the operation. They just are trying to give them a better quality of life. Thanks again. You were very thoughful to take time to respond. Thanks too for the prayers. William Bowles |
The bronchoscopy was done to find out why she was having such breathing problems. The specialist did the bronchoscopy and after the prodcedure he said it would be 1200-1500 to do the repair and she may not survive the surgery. After much research I decided not to do the surgery. I consulted via phone with Texas A & M Vet school who had done a research study on CT and they sent me the paper. Based on where Gracie's trachea was collapsed, in the thoracic area it said the outcome was not good and many complications after surgery. Money was never an issue as I spent close to 4,000 on her the last year and 1/2 of her life on er vet bills and oxygen chamber visits, but her quality of life was and I did not do the surgery. She lived another 1 1/2 years and I sadly had to let her go at the age of 6 1/2. Gracie's was a severe case and I pray your outcome is much better. I will keep your baby in my prayers. |
Samson's Visit to Hospital for Bronoschopy Thanks for sharing. Prayers were there for us and the specialist found he did not have a collapse trachea after all. He is overweight which we have been working on and it was causing the slidor which is located between the esphogus and his trachea. He said it would not be a big thing but his little noises and sounds would likely be less or even go away when the weight is brought down about 2.5# which is a lot for a 9# Yorkie now. We have a challenge ahead but feel we have been blessed and hopefully he can have a full life with some quality. William Bowles |
I just read your posts and am so thankful that Samson got a good report! Tell him he isn't in his little "fat boat" alone! Our Toto is also overweight and we have been trying desperately to trim her down ... the only thing we know to do now is exercise! We have her on a good healthy diet but that alone just isn't doing the trick! Please keep us updated. Samson, Toto sends you hugs! ;) |
That's great! Weight is so hard to get off a small dog. My Pom is overweight by about 1 1/2 lbs but it is so hard to get her to loose the weight. She is almost 10 and it is hard to exercise her. Good luck. |
