Need advice

So last night Daisy came in from outside and i saw that she was playing with something. So i asked my fiance to turn the lights on and i grabbed the dog because i saw like foamy stuff from her mouth, well when i stood up with her (we were sitting on the couch) i noticed on my arm a big black thing, i screamed and kinda threw her. After i realized it was a slug (yuck) i picked her up and told her i was so very sorry. She has been limping around. She has LP and that's the leg that hit the coffee table and the leg she didnt put down at first. She puts weight on it, but limps. That was last night, my dad went to let her out about 1/2 hour ago and she was limping and he had to go pick her up from outside. When he put her down inside she ran around in circles for her biscuit. I'm VERY concerned that she's really in paid, but not showing it. Do i run to the vet? Do i give it until tomorrow? I dont know what to do. Thank you all. I still cant believe that i did this to her.

Aw accidents happen. Try not to be hard on yourself. Since she has LP and has been limping for more than a day I would take her to the vet to be checked out

Thanks for your advice. I actually just called the vet and waiting for the vet to call me back. I'm gonna leave work early and go work from home the rest of the afternoon to be with her. I feel SO bad and i know it was an accident, but it hurts knowing that she may be hurt. I wish they talked - dam it. I dont want to be one of those people who run for everything (even though i have). So i'll wait to see what they say.

How is Daisy doing?

I so hope your little girl is doing better :xfingers:

My 9 yr old Buffy had this problem when she was more active and when her knee was out of whack, we would massage it back in place. Now she is not that active and has not had any problem with that knee.

Now my 10 month Duncan has that problem on one back knee and I think it happen when he came here BC he jumps and runs so much!....we still have not been able to pop that one back to place, but it does not seem to hurt him any and runs really good!.

Well I hope she recovers soon, best wishes.

Accidents happen, it's not your fault. Hopefully it's not serious and Daisy will be ok. And I know what you mean about their being able to talk. It would make our lives much less stressful when they get sick. Keep us updated.

Poor little girl. Accidents definately happen. Don't beat yourself up. How is she doing today? Did you take her to the vet yesterday?

Daisy23 10-10-2006 08:09 AM

I spoke to the vet on Friday and he said give it till Saturday (it happened Thurs night) and by Saturday if she was still not putting full weight down come right in. She was fine. Saturday night she kept picking her leg up and just kinda fell over (off balance i'm assuming) so i took her and tried to massage like the muscle in her leg and it made it worse so i just left it be and put her in her playpen (that's her night night bed) so i know she would just lay there and go to sleep and wouldnt be on it. Sunday i got up she was perfectly fine running around the yard, flying up and down the stairs then right back to limping around and picking it up. So is this game for sympathy on me  no idea. So she was fine yesterday than my other half took her to go potty outside but she got to the bottom of the stairs and picked up her leg and was shaking alittle..to me that means pain of some sort. She has a 3:00 appointment today at the vet. It seem its almost like a charlie horse that comes and goes. I shall see this afternoon.

I know accidents happen, but i feel terrible.

I have raised many dogs an one thing I have ealt with in the past was the "give me sympathy limp" . These guys are so smart they will fake a limp because they love the attention it gets. It can happen after they are hurt they sometimes will milk it for all they can get. But you do have to be certain that they are not still hurt. Mine would sometimes change legs to limp with. These guys are so cute!

I had a samoyed who used to do this whenever he got into trouble and if you knew him he was always getting into some kind of trouble. I miss him, he died when I was about 18 years old. He had osteoscarcoma (bone cancer) he was only 2 years old

well she definitely was not playing a game. the vet gave me bad news. it actually wasnt the leg i thought it was. its not her leg with LP but the bad news i got is she now has it on the other leg:( i just started to cry at the vet, i am totally so sad. i cant believe this happened to her. he said the way she feel tore her ligament which now lets her knee displace. i know it was a total accident, but i cant help but to feel like a bad mom. i know i'm not but it's very upsetting. he told me to keep an eye on her for another week. i asked about giving her something for pain and he said she's not in pain, its just discomforting. he said he believes in letting nature run its course because if you give her something then she may not feel it the discomfort and do more damage. so ive been sitting home with her just cuddling with her and telling her i'm sorry. the vet also said that he doesnt believe she will ever need surgery and if she does i need to think about it a month before my decision. i said when you tell me its the time, then i'll think about it. she's my heart and soul, i will do whatever i need to.

I am so sorry for both you and Daisy. I'm sure that she will be fine and you will see to whatever needs she has.

I am so sorry to hear you both are having such a hard time. My prayers are with the both of you. I hope I did not offend you. I did not mean she was not hurt. Only that after they can play it up. My baby Rudy has been sick for days now.. Tonight he finally has improved so I too have been worrying about him. I worry did he eat something to make him not feel well and feel so guilty what if a new treat I gave him days prior made him sick. We love them so much.

Poor little Daisy...and poor you! I hope her legs stay okay so she doesn't need surgery. And...don't blame yourself...accidents happen and that darn slug...look at the trouble it caused! Hugs to you and Daisy!

you did not offend me at all. i know the whole sympathy thing ;) i would've been fine if she was milking it. She seemed fine last night and this morning, i think what bothers me is the thought of actually what's happening and the thought hurts my knees. im hoping she will never need the surgery and its not even a thought in my mind, until the vet says i think you need to think about it. so we'll see how things go day by day i can only hope that this discomfort phase goes away fast.
