Constipation Help! I think Sophie is constipation. She is stuck in the pooping position. It looks like she a has poop stuck in her bottom. I'm not sure what to do! I tried to help, but she cried! There is no vet opened around here today. Should I put her in the bath tub. Or can I give her something to soften her stool. |
This won't help now but I read somewhere that they get constipated if they don't drink enough water. |
She always has fresh water at all times. I'm not sure how ti fix it right now though. She is in pain. I'm not sure what can soften her stool...... |
hmmmmm did you search on google i've been looking for you but I haven't found home remedies yet. |
I would first soak her but in warm water and clear out any dried poop. This may be enough to help her get going again. Maybe you can call the er vet and ask what you can give her. I believe canned pumpkin has been mentioned on here for constipation. Try doing a search for pumpkin. |
Let us know how things go, will you? If I remember right the canned pumpkin is good for this, but not the spicy kind, just plain pumpkin. |
Yes everyone is right. I was told by the vet(ER) to give my furbaby pumpkin not the one with spices in it. You can get it in the store with the pie fillings. Just make sure no spices are in it. And for my guy they said two table spoons every 12 hours and he was at 9 pounds then. I don't know how much you furbaby weighs, but you might want to adjust the amount. Good luck and keep us informed please. |
Hopefully the problem is solved by now. It sounds like she has dried poop on her bottom that is stuck in her hair so when she tries to go it's pulling the hair - ouch! Just soak her bottom in warm water and give her bath to remove all the feces and trim the hair if necessary. Give her a heaping teaspoon of the plain pumpkin a couple of times a day and make sure she is getting plenty of water and exercise. |
I soaked her in the bathtub, and that help a little, but she is still on the oooping position. I'm on my way to the store to get some pumpkin. Thanks for all your help.... |
This does not sound like a routine case of constipation. Did she eat any bacon, ham, pork, milk, etc. ? If she is remaining in a hunched position I think she is in pain - maybe pancreatitis, a foreign object blockage. Is her anus open and can you see poo that is just hard? I, personally, think I would be going to an emergency vet. Since you are with her you are the only person that can judge the severity of the symptoms. Even if it is just hard stools she may need an enema or a glycerine suppository. |
Little Bit would cry like it hurt her to poop so we took her to the vet and he gave us Lax Aire to give her just a tiny bit every couple of days and it seemed to do the trick. It comes in a tube like Nutrical and she will take it just as readily. I probably only give her like 1/4 tsp every other day or so. I do think I would get her to the vet as soon as I could in case she has eaten something that is lodged inside. Good luck & please let us know.:) |
How is Sophie? Please update when you get a minute. |
Just got home from the vet. She said she is ok. She did not see anything in there ans her system was clear. She said she may have cramps, upset stomach. She put her on some meds. If she is not better in a few days I am going for a second opinion. She checked her bowels and found nothing under the microscope. Weird! She did not have a fever either. I dont know, I guess wait and see. This is no fun...... Thank you for all your help. I'll let you know how she is feeling in a few days... |
