Chloe is throwing up... Hello.. I'm a new mom to 12 week old Chloe (female..:) I have had her for 3 days. I love her to pieces! However, ever night since she has been with us, she has been throwing up between the hours of 11pm-3am anywhere from 2-3 times in a row almost. She seems to be very active and playfuk, when awake. However, when she is sleepy, she sleeps hard it seems. Meaning, if I try to awake her by gently picking her up and placing her in another location, she drops to the new spots, right back asleep instantly, like she never moved at all. Also, she seems to not be eating alot at all... I try to feed her the food her breeder had her on, almost 4-5 times a day...and she may only eat a few small peebles of food... she is drinking water ok it seems... She does not seems unhealthy to me....however these throwing up spells are starting to worry me... and she seems a little distraught after throwing up as well. Also, it seems after she throws up, she will poo almost right after. Her poo appears to be normal. I called her breeder yesterday, and she said that this was common w/ yorkies. She said it may be anxiety from being moved away, or nervousness.... I just don't see why it is only happening at night time only???? She was last seen by the breeder vet on 8/28/2006, (i have the paperwork) I am assuming she was fine, as the breeder explained. I will not be able to get her to the vet until the week after next unfortunatly. Is there any advise anyone can give please??? I love my little Chloe to bits and pieces and I can't bear to see her as a sick pup.... Has anyone had these same problems..? I have been doing as much research as possible!!! Please help!!! Thanks Yorkie lovers :animal36 |
Hi, and welcome to Yorkie Talk. If your yorkie is throwing up she needs to go to the vet. I'm sorry you say you can't go til the week after next, I don't know if this is money related, if it is you can try calling around town asking how much the office visit will cost. And if they'll work with you. I'm sure you'll do your best to get her in to see the vet. You said she's not eating much either. Yorkie's are very small and have hypoglycemic tendencies, this is low blood sugars essentially. You should have nutrical (at a pet store) on hand, to bring her sugar back up if she's lethargic, wobbling, haven't eaten in a very long while. This comes in a tube, you can give her a pea size or more (not way too much) it will stimulate their appetite) If your not near a pet store, try karo syrup to stimulate her appetite. She needs to eat and she's adjusting to the change also which may be why she's not eating (don't know about the vomiting) you can try wet dog food to tempt her. Good luck to you. Susan |
Welc ome! I hope you can get her in to the vet ASAP. Speaking as someone whowent through this with CAli, you need to get the vet involved. Also I had to feed CAli at first evry 3- 4 hours even during the night or she would throw up or go hypoglycemic. You can loose them so fast to this. Definately give her Nutrical and try to get her to eat, even if its Cesar's dog food or chicken. Please keep us posted. |
Your baby needs to see a vet ASAP! There must be someone there that will work with you on the bill. Yorkies are tiny and they can dehydrate etc etc very quickly. Please get to the vet before it may be too late! |
I would think the midnight vomiting is because she has bile in her stomach from not eating enough. Yorkies don't eat that much, but definitely more than a few pebbles. Try putting a quality dry puppy food in a blender and turning it into a powder, add a little canned and very warm water and make a gruel and feed her 4 times a day. Continue to leave out the dry and water. No treats, but if you have to entice her to eat feed boiled chicken and cooked white rice, but try the wet dog food first. If she is not eating then she definitely needs to be supplemented with Nutrical or Nutristat (mine prefer the taste of this one and it's a dollar or so cheaper). It's a high calorie food supplement, will prevent hypoglycemia, and also has B vitamins which will stimulate her appetite. The deep sleep you are describing is probably related to low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and is life threatening if left untreated. If you get her eating properly and the vomiting continues then a vet appointment is necessary. Vomiting or diarrhea in a small puppy can cause dehydration very quickly and shouldn't be considered normal under any circumstances. |
Thanks!! Hello everyone....! Well, I got some Cesar wet food today and mixed with her Eukenuba and warm water in the blender... she seems to like this....however she prefers just the Cesars by itself, which I only gave her a teaspoon of...:) She seems to have eaten alot better today and is drinking more water it seems. My Husband and I are off to the store to get the Nutrical in a minute... I just wanted to give an update first. We will see how she does tonite, at bedtime. I will try feeding her again one more time maybe about an hour to half an hour before bed... does everyone agree with that? I hope?? Just want to make sure that would be enough time...or should I feed her a couple hours before actually going to bed?? Of course I will check on her around 2 or 3 am in her crate just to make sure everythig is ok... As I said she is extremely active during the day and evening for that matter...she does not appear ill at all to me.... it's just the throwing up at night time that is very strange to me... I am still going to try to get her to the vet sometime this week.... Any more advise from anyone would be awesome! I grately appreciate everyones efforts to help me with my baby, and so far it seems to be working!!! Thankful for you all, Andrea- Chloes Mommy...:animal-pa |
