Help Im New At This! :) Hi Everyone:wavey: My yorkie Kaci is 8 months old and I think she is coming in heat. :eek: Could some one please tell me the signs and symptoms so I will know for sure. She is swollen and wants to sleep a lot. Also can some one tell me the process for a Yorkie. How long do they go through it ? :confused: I owned a Cocker SPaniel in the past and I knew how her cycles went but now I need help with my new baby. Thanks and God Bless ! :o |

I believe they are in heat for 2-3 weeks but only bleeding 7-10 days. But I am not sure. The symptoms you describe sound like Cali and Maya when thery came into heat. Hoepfully someone who knows for sure can answer. |

It does sound like your baby is growing up and having her first heat. Symptoms include sleeping more, increase in urination and a swollen vulva. The average heat lasts about 3 weeks, some can last less and some more. The first part of the heat cycle is called the PROESTRUS, you will see discharge and bleeding, your girl will not allow mating during this stage (no excuse keep her safe ;) ) The secong part of the heat is called the estrus and can last from 4 to 21 there will be hardly any visible bleeding. But this is the time she will be acceptable to mating. Then the final stage is diestrus where once again she will not allow any mating. About 7 months from the start of this heat, she will have her next heat cycle and you have to do it all again! :) |
