Please help...Laxative question... Ok...i feel like a bad mommy right now. My bigger yorkies got on furniture so high I never thought they could get up to and got the tube of cat laxative I was gioven by the vet for my puppy. I just found the tube chewed up and almost empty. It was a little over half full. I don't know if it will hurt them or make them have to go a whole lot but I was hoping soneone on here could tell me what to do. I don't want them hurt and the stupid tube of stuff smelled like caramel so I know they probably enjoied eating it but I am worried about it hurting their systems. Lexie is a little over 11lbs, Romeo is 6.5 lbs and the chihuahua girl is 4.5lbs. All 3 got into it and since I was not here I have no idea how much each one had. There is also a lot on the floor which means they didn't eat the whole thing...but close. I am hoping it will not hurt them but I wanted to be safe and ask since the tube nor the box tells that info and there are no vets I can call until monday after 3pm. Please help! ~Tru |
Im not sure what to tell you..I can imagine with a laxitive there will be some cramping and LOTS of messes for you to clean up...eek...keep us posted Dawn |
... I have no idea how this happened. I never thought my yorkies could get on my furniture. The furniture is so very high and they have problems jumping on the ottoman to get on my bed. (The dresser is higher than the bed). This just scares me. I would never do anything to endanger my babies! I thought they were safe. Now I know better but I have more to worry about. If it wasn't so scary it would be funny considering they probably won't get into just anything after getting the poops...but not knowing if it will hurt them changes all that. I want them safe and healthy. I am hoping they only get the poops. Lexie hates having to poop...it seems to annoy her! She does a whole thing about fussing and barking when she has to go. it is actually quite funny. (it is not fussing from pain either...just the fact that she has to poop, lol). I am hoping this all passes ok...OK I made a joke without meaning to...lol. but seriously I want them ok. ~Tru |
I pray that they are ok to and that we can laugh about this when its all over with...Darla can jump soooooooooooo high so I am always worried she will get into something she shouldnt..its not your fault, things happen!! Is there any emergency vet you can call even if you cant get to it? I know my vet is 45 mins from me and he is a small rural vet that doesnt have emergency. I would have to call one of the bigger cities emerg. numbers if need be...maybe you could find one that you can call? Dawn |
There are no emergency vets open around here until Monday. We are in the middle of nowhere. It stinks...that is why I thougt it may help to ask on here. We will have a new vet here soon but they are still getting the land ready to build and out local vet is only open 2 days a week. The others are very far away. They seem ok...just fussy. I hope they are going to be alright. I am going to be watching them all weekend..If I see a problem I will drive them to Atlanta or something. ~Tru |
Was this like a 2 1/2 oz. tube? If it was something like Laxatone which is a cat hair ball remover and a laxative it is white petroleum based and most likely all you will see is loose stools. |
Maybe the poison control number might help. I had a friend who rescued a fawn and had it in her house. The fawn hadn't pooped so she gave it a little x-lax. I got there to see the fawn after she gave it the lax. I walked in to see a fawn go streaking thru the rooms with my friend running right behind it waving a couple rolls of paper towels and a wet washcloth and poo was flying out of the fawn all over the place. What a mess! Funny for me, not for her. The fawn was fine after everything was out. I just checked a tube I have and there is no mention of overdose or anything - just keep away from children, which is on everything. There is a number on the tube to call with any questions. Maybe that would help. I have Hartz Advanced Care Hairball Remedy - 800-275-1414 (9 - 5 EST). Good luck. I hope your babies are ok. AND you are not a bad Mommy. You are a great Mommy with inquisitive little babies.:D |
update... :animal-pa I think my babies have iron tummies, lol. They didn't get the runs at all. I suppose that means the laxative didn't have any effect on them. Not one of them had the runs. All of them had solid poops (the normal kind) which came as a surprise considering how much they consumed. I guess they didn't get much of the stuff after all. I am feeling much better knowing they are acting ok. Lexie is still annoyed when she gets the poops which is the funniest and weirdest thing I have ever seen in a dog but All of the babies are acting ok. I will never leave anything in a room near a place they could or couldn't access since learning they can get to anything at any time. Thank you for the responses and help. All of it has been helpful. I was told as long as they didn't get sick or weak they were ok. Hopefully it will remain that way but I will keep you all posted if anyting (heaven forbid) goes wrong) I think I can safely say they are ok though! Thank you for the support! ~Tru </IMG> |
So glad to hear they are all right with no side effects!! Whew...what a relief!! Dawn |
I am glad all your babies are doing just fine, and very happy for you that you didn't spend a day cleaning butts and carpet! Mine got a hold of a tube of Nutrical once! |
