bleeding nail I was just clipping rosie's nail and it started bleeding. I pretty much put the whole bottle of powder to make it stop bleeding, but I can't really tell if it stopped. How long should I leave the powder on her toe and should I just wash it off with water? Thanks! |
I washed it off and thought everything was good, but she was still bleeding. If anyone could give me advice then I would apprecite it. Thanks. |
Just dip her nail in the jar or use a qtip dipped in the powder and leave it on for a while. Repeat if needed. Don't wash it off, if you do, the water will soften the tip of the nail and it will start bleeding again. |

Cut to the quick I have done that on occasion. It looks like a lot of blood, but your dog will not bleed to death. With one dog I left it powdered, covered it with cotton and a sock over that. Then, with masking tape or electrical tape, wrap it so that the sock stays in place. Just be careful not to tape it too tightly-best to use a figure 8 wrapping. Some dogs will attempt to chew it off, but a well-behaved one can be told "No". The last time, I left the sock overnight-by morning it was great. ps; I use flour, talcum powder-whatever is handy! |
Thanks for the advice. It did look like a lot of blood. I put the powder on it and taped a napkin on her foot. She is running around and rubbing herself everywhere trying to take it off. It is hilarious. Now the question is can I get myself to keep trying to cut her nails or do I just keep paying $12. |
I know how it feels! i first time Layla got her nails cut by a non groomer... she jumped.. it got cut way too short... i rushed out to the pet store to get the powder and dipped her whole paw in :p but i never washed it off it just kinda wore off. I won't cut them again... she goes to the groomers now for her nails... i just can't bear to hear her cry like that again! Good Luck :) |
