Vomiting baby :( My baby Lazer has vomited twice in the past week. the first time was 1 week ago, around 4am i woke up, he was up and i noticed he vomitted a yellow liquid, just a little bit. Also, this morning, again around 4 am he vomitted what looked like to be a hairball!(like cats do). He sometimes chews on my fiances hair, and he sleeps with us some nights so i am thinking we probably swallow some hair but i am concerned. his diet consists of 1/3 cup eukanib and 1-2 tablespoons of caesars chicken and meat or newmans organic brown rice and chicken he is not showing any sings of being ill. he plays like normal and acts normal, but why has he thrown up???? do yorkies usuallydo this? he is 6 months old I am bringing him to the vet later on in the week...should I be concerned? He is not throwing up after he eats, it's during the middle of the night when he is sleeping!!!  |
Dogs throw up for no apparent reason sometimes and it's not always a cause for concern. If your pup is acting normally and isn't throwing up after eating, I think he's probably just fine. Sometimes they get little hairballs (mine get dustbunny balls cause they like to eat those) and in an effort to clear their throat they can make themselves sick. Sounds like your baby just threw up a little bile. If you're concerned, mention it to your vet when you go in and see what they say. I've had dogs all my life though and come to learn that with all the crap you see them putting in their mouths - something is bound to come back up sometime! :) |

Puppies (like babies) really do just spit up (or throw up) occasionally. All my animals do --- occasionally! I'm sure it's something they ate - or whatever! It just happens. So don't worry about it - and expect it once in a while. Of course - this is different than having a little puppy throw up all day - or every day. I think sometimes these little guys just eat too fast or drink too much water -then they start running around and "up it comes." Again, don't worry! Plus - mine always throw up and then go on playing and running around like usual. It's obvious they aren't sick! Carol Jean |
The foamy yellow vomit is called bile (stomach acids). It happens when the baby has an empty tummy. Try feeding him a snack later in the evening to keep some food in his tummy. If this doesn't happen very often it isn't anything to be concerned about. If it happens all the time and feeding him later at night and earlier in the morning doesn't help you can also give 1/2 of a tums to neutralize the acid so it doesn't cause stomach ulcers. |
Like Lacy'sMom said it can be from an empty tummy. Cali still gets fed 3 meals a day the last at 10pm otherwise she throws up bile. Try the snack at bedtime |
Aria was throwing up 3-4 times a week for a few months and would have these big attacks (throwing up 8+ times a day) once a month. Sometimes it was just bile (yellow) sometimes it was her food, sometimes it was white bubbly. We could not figure it out since she was acting completely normal otherwise. We started feeding her smaller portions 3x a day so her tummy wouldn't be empty for too long. We switched her food to a prescription food for sensitive tummies and she did good for about a week and then continued to throw up every 3-4 days. So we then switched her to a hypoallergetic prescription food and took her off all her old treats and chewy bones. We found a treat that didn't have too much protein or stuff that the vet thought would give her a allergic reaction to and she has been great ever since. It's been a month and a half and she hasn't thrown up ONCE! She seems to really love her food for once too. I think it's cause it's not making her tummy upset. That was just our situation but if your baby continues to get sick I would just ask the vet to see if that is a possibility. Good luck and I hope you guys figure it out soon :) |
