HELP! SNORTING NOISES breathing probs Please help!!! I hope someone else is familiar with this problem in yorkies. My Deucy (10 months and healthy) has started this terrible snorting sound and while he's doing it, it's like he can't catch his breath!! I try to help him. It's happening more than 3 times a day now. I'm afraid to take him to the vet...just yet..until I talk to some of you. PLEASE RESPOND if you are familiar with this problem!!! ASAP!!!!!! THANK YOU |
Eddie has done that since he was a pup, and I'm convinced it's what people call "reverse sneezing." Try dooing a search on Yorkietalk for reverse sneezing and you'll see some discussion on it. Also, try googling it. The good news is it's considered harmless. |
It does sound like reverse sneezing, but I just wanted to mention that it could also be tonsillitis, as that's what my Maddie had and it seemed a lot like reverse sneezing. Is your dog acting ill at all...when not doing this snorting? If he has tonsillitis, he would be acting sick and probably not eating. Next time he does it, cover his nostrils with your fingers and it should make him take a breath through his mouth and he should stop snorting...if that works, it is most likely reverse sneezing, and like Alaskayorkie said, it is harmless. |
If it's reverse sneezing, try covering your furbaby's nostrils with your fingers for a few seconds. This will force him to breathe from his mouth. I've done it on Baby and it works. I learned that from YT! So you should find tons more if you do a search. ;) |

PS. Sorry to the original poster for changing the subject...but I HAD to do it! :p :D |
Nice save, BabyFidgette! I owe you one. |
THANK YOU for your replies! It makes me feel a LITTLE better knowing that it could be something as simple as reverse sneezing, which by the way, I've NEVER heard of before. How strange. He does not act sick in any way at all. Sleeps very well and eats very well ....Plays like crazy with his wife (Sadie Ann, 13 months). I was wondering if the A/C had anything to do with it as well. But, Sadie Ann has never had a problem and Deucy hadn't until now and I've had them both in the house ONLY since the day I got them when they were babies. I do keep the house a very cool 68-70 degrees at all times. I also take them outside (but only in my arms) each day for a trip around the yard. They so look forward to it. Neither has ever touched the ground. I'm extremely picky about what I feed them...only the best. HOWEVER, I am taking him to the vet today and get a check up. Thanks again for responding so quickly. I KNEW I could count on Yorkietalk when in a pinch as I have in the past. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!:aimeeyork |
We just went to the vet for that too. Katy have never done it before. Scared the day lights out of us. (Her too) It seemed like such a sudden onset. My vet thinks she has allegeries. He put her on childrens Benadryl twice a day. |
I thought about that. He LOVES to lie on the A/C vent in the house..I change the return air filter every 30 days..but tonight i noticed as soon as he lay down there by it, he started the snorting. Didn't get to take him to the vet today...had a 4 hr dentist appt. Came home and slept it off. I will get him there soon. |
