Napoleon has diarhea :( My poor baby has diarhea and i can't figure out why?" two things happened last night. We were at petco and decided it was time to switch his Cesars food to Beneful. so in the evening he ate the beneful. Then also for the first time ever, I bought him some raw hide mini bones with a yorkie on the packaging. So after he ate his Beneful, I gave him a raw hide. The last time he has had diarhea was when he was 8 weeks old and he is almost 5 months now. I dont know what caused the diarhea. Is it the food or the bone? Should I switch back to Cesars? ( I bought a few cans just incase) HELLPPPPPP!! I DONT WANT MY BABY TO BE SICK :( |
Did you mix the food or did you just give him Beneful? I've heard that an immediate change in food can upset their tummy. |
Never change a food abruptly. Slowly add the new food to the old and gradually increase it over a two week period. Most likely the change of food is what caused it. In my opinion, Beneful is a really bad food. It has a lot of dyes in it, just to make it look appealing to you. Volunteering in a shelter we can't be too picky about food donations, but I've seen a lot of dogs throw it right up. The Beneful and Alpo Gravy Train seem to be the worst. I would suggest you try Merricks, Nutro Ultra, Eukanuba for small breeds, etc. Go to a petstore to buy the food and skip the grocery store and department store brands. They eat so little you can afford to feed the best and I truly believe a good quality food reduces vet bills. |
It could be a combination of the 2 really. They recommend that if you change foods to make it gradual. Give him some plain boiled chicken and a little white rice to get his tummy settled down. I hope he feels better soon. I would also not recommend Beneful try Solid Gold Wee Bits, Candidae or Verus it has a ton of nutritional value with little to no fillers. Welcome to YT:D :D |
Here's the ingredients for the Beneful puppy formula. It's mostly corn and even the the second ingredient is chicken by products which include the beaks, feet, etc. (undigestible protein) and then further down it lists chicken which means in the wet form to make it heavier so they can put it up further on the list since they have to be listed by weight. The dyes or colors as they list it have no nutritional value whatsoever. Ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal, whole wheat flour, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), chicken, rice flour, milk, soy flour, sugar, sorbitol, tricalcium phosphate, water, animal digest, salt, phosphoric acid, potassium chloride, dicalcium phosphate, sorbic acid (a preservative), L-Lysine monohydrochloride, added color (Yellow 5, Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 2), calcium carbonate, dried peas, dried carrots, calcium propionate (a preservative), choline chloride, DL-Methionine, Vitamin E supplement, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, Vitamin A supplement, manganese sulfate, niacin, Vitamin B-12 supplement, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement, copper sulfate, brewers dried yeast, biotin, garlic oil, thiamine hydrochloride, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), calcium iodate, sodium selenite.
