New baby vomiting - Help She is only 7 weeks old.
 

We just picked up Adie yesterday and she was doing fine. She was vet checked for health two days ago and was clear to go. Yesterday she ate well and drank water better than the breeder said she was drinking at home. She has been voiding just fine. Last night she ate at about 8PM and promptly went to sleep. Woke up around midnight to pee. THis morning when she stirred she was making these really faint squeaky noises. When I got her out of her crate she had had diarrea. She ate well then had a firm stool. Then she started vomiting. Here it is the 4th of July and no emergency vet to call. I can take her in tomorrow but I'm scared to death that she will get too sick. She has thrown up several times. Her little belly gets hard and even touching it makes her whine. I think it makes her vomit too.After throwing up her tummy is back to normal but she is lethargic. The length of time between vomiting seems to be getting longer but she is not eating or drinking. I have tried to give her Nutical but she refuses to eat it and vomits if I try to force it on her. How long can this baby go without eating? It has already been 9 hours! I have pepto bismol, Gatoraid, Kaopectate, baby food etc on hand but am afraid to do anything to upset her tummy. If I can give her something else (mentioned above) to feed her How much of anything should I give her? She is one pound 6 ounces. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. (She just had another firm stool.)

I would give her pedialyte through a syringe PROMTPLY!!!!! Also, try giving her some plain yogurt. Both of these should give her some nourishment and help settle her tummy until tomorrow when you can take her to the vet ASAP. You need to give her these things, Pedialyte and Yogurt, PROMPTLY! This little bitty girl cannot go without food or water that long.


PLEASE keep us updated! I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure after you take her to the vet that everything will be fine. But please try to take good care of her until you can get her to the vet.

Is there anyway you can take her back to the breeder??? 7 weeks and 1lbs 6oz seems aweful small and young for her to already be separated from her mama.

I gave her a little Gatorade and hubby is on the waay to the store as we speak.

If she will not eat the yogurt on her own, put it in the syringe and give it to her.

I just want to wish you luck - she may need to go back to the vet as this sure doesn't sound normal to me - but....I hope she feels better on her own

keep a good eye on her and if you have to use a syringe - use one ! sometimes they eat really well from them

Lou, first, seven weeks is awfully young to be separted from her mom. I am a breeder and I don't send my furbabies to their forever home until they are twelve weeks old. That way, if there are any problems, they will probably show up. I also guarantee my furbabies healthwise for one year. But, you don't need to hear all that right now ~ give the baby pedialyte and yogurt. Also, you might try nutr-stat. My dogs prefer that to nutri-cal. What type of dog food are you feeding her. And yes, please, please keep us informed.

I would be terribly worried that an hypoglycemic episode would develop. I would definitely want some Karo, Nutri-cal, Nutri-stat or something like that in her so her blood sugar level won't drop. Been through it and never want to again. Best wish and prayers headed your way!!

I agree to give her yogurt and Pedialyte. Prayers on on their way for you and your little baby. I hope she is better soon. Please keep us informed.

In a 7 week old I'd be concerned with hypoglycemia and dehydration. they can die so quickly I would not be able to wait til tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. She hasn't vomited since I originally wrote but when I handle her she starts a sort of gagging (just a little) as if she is about to vomit. I managed to get a mouthful of yogurt down her and some pedialyte. She goes right back to sleep if I wake her up. She doesn't want me to touch her and struggles to get free. (Not like her.) I really think Pressure on her tummy hurts. Her gums are a dark pink and her eyes are clear. I'm trying to find a vet that is available to see her on a holiday.

I would let her sleep but wake her up every hour or so to give her yogurt and Pedialyte. If she will not take the yogurt and pedialyte voluntarily, give it to her through a syringe. She may take a little on her own, but if you don't think she got enough, then give some to her through the syringe. If you cannot find a vet that is open tonight, please take her first thing in the morning.

Sorry you're having to go through this. :( I know it is rough, but hang in there.:thumbup: Sounds like you are being a very good mommy.;)

We found an emergency vet and took Adie in. She has lost 2 ounces. They tested for parvo and worms - both were negative. She was just starting to have specks of blood in her vomit. She is a little hypoglycemic but not dehydrated. I guess forcing fluids on her helped a lot. She is spending the night there so the vet can give her IV's throughout the night. She'll get dextrose and something to stop the vomiting.
