puppy got slapped around by cat my 5 month old 3 lb female yorkie got clocked on the head a few times while she was sleeping by my cat who is about 9 lbs and declawed. I saw 2 swats and my pup was lying on her back with her front legs out straight looking like she was in bad shape. I picked her up and she was able to move but looks a little dazed and her balance isn't as good as normal. She's not bleeding or appear to have any tender areas, and responds to her name. it's now around an hour after her rude awakening. I guess I'm wondering what if anything to do. Or does it make more sense to wait till tomorrow morning to see if she's back to normal? mitch |
My cat is 20 lbs and my little girl is 5 lbs. She has been batted on the head a few times (he is NOT declawed) he has never hurt her...in the matter of fact she goes after him after he wacks her...Maybe it just scared your pup...I don't think I would really worry about it to much..espcially if he doesn't have claws...unless he might have bit her? |
If her balance is abnormal, I would take her to a vet right away--but I do have a tendency to freak out when things are abnormal. They are so small!! Well, I hope someone else will be more helpful. I really hope your baby is okay. |
As an update she's sleeping again, and if she gets up later more or less normal I'm not goig to worry if she's till wobbly it's off to the vet. Thanks all ! |
I have 2 cats & Lexie gets hammered all the time by the cats, but she starts it by chasing them, we call her the cat chaser...Lexie is only 4.5 pounds and the cats are twice her size...Your yorkie probably just got scared and is acting alittle different..Lexie when she first came home got her feelings hurt all the time and you would have thought somebody killed her a hour or so later she was fine...( I have been to the vet & called the breeder many times) |

Pixie is always getting hit by my two 12lb cats (Pixie is 3.5lbs) and there's never been a problem. The male one hits hard enough to knock her over but it never seems to faze her. Pixie just hops right up and does it all again... |
Yeah, our 16 lb cat tackles the less than 3 lb. babies all the time. It's always good to keep an eye on things of course, but I DOUBT that it would be "bats on the head" like you described making the pup act that way. My puppy is a HUGE baby....she acts so big and tough, and then the first little thing she doesn't like, she throws a pitiful whining fit. One morning she was acting so spastic, like she couldn't walk, and I was seriously on the verge of throwing her in the car and rushing to the vet. Then I discovered it was all over a little flea biting her on the bum. This is all not to minimize your concerns! If she is still showing signs of imbalance, of course, that's to be taken seriously! Good luck! |
any news? |
slapped puppy Dee woke up like nothing happened... running fine, able to balance on my arm, sit on my shoulders, all the things she was doing pre-kitty-bomp. OK she's a bit leary with the cat, not enough to stay away now she'll tease the cat then run over to me... the cat, needless to say, is even more frustrated Thanks to all for your concern, Dee is my first little dog, my last one was a big (225 lbs) great dane so I'm a little lost with tiny dogs. mitch |
slapped puppy continued Oh yea one sorta funny thing happened yeserday. Dee decided to lay back down in the sameplace she was when the cat went after her, and she lies down in the position I picked her up after she was smacked. Front legs out straight lying on her side sorta stiff... Her new way of napping.. Just what I need a practical joking puppy. m |
I would not worry to much. My cat beats up on Rocky all the time. |
Mini all the time does boxing matches with my cat Monet ..she has never been hurt ! |

HA!!!! Maybe she thought it got her lots of fun attention the first time! ;) :D |
I was going to tell you that the way you found your puppy is the way that mine sleeps all the time. Sometimes my dogs and cats play so hard and rough with each other that I make them go outside. They both act like they're being killed, but if I separate them, they are right back at it in two minutes. I have one five-year-old dog and a seven-year-old cat that play together constantly. Good luck! You might just as well sit back and let them do their thing. The fact that your cat's declawed means he can't ever do much damage. Carol Jean |
