eye discharge? one of my dogs has woken up for 2 days with discharge in one of her eyes - kind of like the stuff when a human has pink eye. anyone familiar with this? omega |
Is the discharge clear or is it colored? If it is clear, then it is an indication of allergies. If it is colored, that is a sign of some sort of infection, either in tje eye or in tue sinuses or something. If it is colored, you will need a vet visit. The vet may flush the eyes to clear out the infection and give you some medication. Do a search on YT on "runny eyes." Someone mentioned that some types of foods can cause runny eyes but I cannot remember what type of food it was. There is also a lot of good info on that thread. |
Thanks. I'm taking her to the vet in about an hour. The discharge is yellow, so I'm not taking any chances. I did do the search you suggested - it was helpfuls, thank you. omega |
Please let me know what the vet says! I am sure that it is nothing serious. The vet will probably be able to get her feeling better today. Good luck! |
It turns out that she scratched her eye. :( The vet said it was a pretty big one. She put dye in it to see how much damage there was. So, she has to wear an E-collar for at least a week, have one med put in 5-6 times a day and the antibiotic put in twice a day. The one med is to dialate her pupil which somehow is supposed to help prevent long term damage and it also helps with the pain. I feel so bad for her. I hate those darn E-collars. They are so uncomfortable, but she can't rub her eye at all, so it has to stay on. She doesn't even fit in her crate with the thing on, so I have a doggie play pen set up for her. I just hope it heals well and that there is no permanent damage. Thanks, omega |

Well, at least the vet found out what is was and she is on her way to recovery. At least it is something that can be corrected relatively easily and it is not a chronic, ongoing problem that you have to treat. She will be back to normal before you know it!!!!! My little Hobbs jumped off the couch a couple of days after we got him and broke his leg! He had to wear a splint for 3 weeks! It felt like forever, but in the grand scheme of things it really wasn't that long at all. I am sure that is how it will be for you. The time that she has to wear that e-collar will fly by. Good luck keeping that baby well! Glad to hear that everything will be okay. |
