Carrots cause vomiting? I have an 8 month old sweetheart that eats only eukanuba dry puppy food and the occasional treat/nutri-cal. I gave him a mini carrot yesterday and today I found out (when I arrived from work) that he vomitted the carrot in the morning, then a few hours later vomitted his eukanuba treat then a few hours after that vomited only water he recently drank. I gave him some nutrical and bought him wet food. He had a small amount of wet food. Should I be worried? go to vetenarian?:( |
If he vomits again, then yeah you should take him to your vet... I dont know if the carrot is what caused the problem, because my 4 lb Yorkie loves mini carrots!! Hope he is okay!! |
I never fed Diamond baby carrots but I was just talking to a lady last night and she said that her Yorkie LOVES carrots. I guess every dog will react differently. I would wait and see how he is tonight and if he vomits again, take him to the vet. |
Oscar loves carrots too! They're great chew treats! Maybe he got into something else that's causing the upset tummy.... |
If he doesn't continue to vomit I wouldn't rush to the vet. Sometimes these Yorkies have such sensitive stomachs anything out of the ordinary causes problems. Carrots are safe, but they don't digest them well. Mine eat carrots, peas, green beans and corn everyday because when I give them to the baby birds the yorkies insist on having their bowl too!! |
Baby Blessing loves the baby carrots, we give them to her for her treats :) also mix it with her dry food and she is doing better with eating, we just recently put her on the Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice Small Bites, I mix a bit of cottage cheese with it. Hope your little guy starts feeling better, might be a good idea to have him vet checked. Please keep us updated on how he is doing. |
carrots are a great treat, my adults and puppies all love them, perhaps your kid has an upset belly...have him vet checked if it continues! |
My dogs have all loved carrots. And - I consider it one of the best things they can chew on. My dogs get at least one whole carrot a day....a big one. And, they will chew on them until there gone -- (but do leave "carrot crumbs" around the house - which are easy to clean up). They have never gotten sick from eating carrots. Carol Jan |

Hello everyone, Thank you all very much for replying. Gizmo vomited again at 3AM and again at 6AM. I decided to take him to the vet. We spend the whole morning at the vet. The doctor said not to give him any human food if his stomach is not used to it. It will cause an upset stomach. I also agreed to have a x-ray done just in case he ingested any foreign object(s). The x-ray result is good. They weren't able to locate anything abnormal in his tummy. Gizmo was also injected with some medication to assist with his vomiting. The doctor prescribed some of that medicine, but in a tablet form and prescription diets. I was told to monitor him to see if the vomiting gets worst. Thank you.:animal-pa |
Glad you have some peace of mind with the vet appointment. I had one Yorkie that could not have anything other than her dry dog food. I just fed Eukanuba, nothing special. One cheese nip or other small tidbit could put her on death's door with all the vomiting and diarrhea. |
My bichon/poodle mix cannot tolerate carrots. He either throws up or diarreah. |
Buddy had bloody stool like raspberry jam in it this a.m. Hi--I am new to Yorkie Talk but I had to post something this morning. Our Yorkie Buddy, 22 months old today, had a bloody stool this morning. It looked like seedless raspberry jam & was that color also. (I have heard if it is bright red in color vs. black it tells the vet where the problem lies in the colon.) I'm no expert on yorkies, but I'm scared. I'm taking him to the vet as soon as they open at 7 am this morning. To give a little background, we were at the in-laws & we forgot his C.E.T. dentals chews that we buy from the vet so they gave him something that looked similar that they found at Kroger grocery store. He gobbled them up & had a blast hiding & then eating them. On Monday he had terrible diarrhea & vomiting. He seemed fine Tuesday & Wednesday. I put the bloody stool in a ziploc bag. He is lying in his bed next to me as he does every morning when I am on the computer... Cindy:animal-pa |
