Need some advice 1 Attachment(s) Okay heres my problem....Peanut (yorkie/maltese) was sitting on the couch and Lexie my little yorkie girl jumped up on the arm of the couch and knocked him off...He didn't cry or anything but he is limping on his back leg, I can't figure out if it is his leg or back...I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow, but I don't know if I should take him to vet er tonight...he is getting up and walking (limping) and I took him and put him in the pool (holding him) trying to getting him move his muscle. He is 8 years old, that is why I am worried..besides limping or holding his paw up most the time he isn't crying or acting like he broke it... he lets me massage it and rub his back I am hoping he maybe just sprain his ankle ...any help would be appreciated .....here is a pic showing you how he likes to sit up on the arm of the couch...Thanks guys I desperately need advise..... |
It sounds like it can wait until tomorrow. I shut my baby's foot in the door pretty hard and she limped for a little while, but was just fine the next day. If you can touch it without his whining I wouldn't think it is broken. Hopefully, tomorrow he will be walking just fine and you can save yourself a vet bill and x-ray charges. |
Trust me... If it was broken, you would probably have teeth marks on your hand by now!! I would say you can wait, too. Just make sure he takes it easy tonight, poor guy!:( :getwellso |

It could be just a pinched nerve that will heal over time. I will keep my fingers crossed. |
Thanks, he is walking more on it, I am afraid its in his back the way he walks...I am going to wait til tomorrow and take him I guess, unless he starts to act like he is in alot of pain.. I think he will be fine until tomorrow..thanks alot, you can always count on yorkietalk...:D |
i hope he feels better soon! keep us updated |
I would even wait a day or two before I would go to the vet ---if your pup doesn't seem to be in pain. I can't tell you how many times my dogs have limped for a day or two (for a hundred different reasons) only to be completely well quickly. Hopefully - your little dog has no serious injury and will be just fine soon. Carol Jean |
Thanks everybody, I came home today from work and he is walking more on his foot...looks like he will be fine...I called the vet and he told me to wait and see how he does the next couple of days. He has already gotten on the arm of the couch, but as soon as Lexie starts to get up there to he tries his best to get down as fast as he can, I guess Lexie taught the old boy a lesson....Thanks:D |
Glad to hear he's doing better |
So glad to hear he is doing better. I am one of those "run to the vet" people but it really does sound like he is doing better. Is he still not swimming using both legs? Just curious. I would NOT let hime run and of course, he is not gonna jump. Just proves "You can teach an old dog new tricks" huh? Especially if he gets knocked off the couch.. |
I made him go swimming again today, and he basically moves his front feet the most trying to get out of the water, he really isn't a water dog..but he isn't holding it up like he was last night...I was really afraid he had hurt his back, but I think he will be fine over time..he will be 8 so he isn't a spring chicken anymore. |
Not to alarm you, but when Hobbs was 12 weeks old, he jumped off the couch and started limping on his back leg. He did not cry or anything. He would let us massage it and move it all we wanted. He didn't act at all like it was hurting but he would not walk on it at all. We are those "run to the vet people" too, so we took him to the ER vet right when it happened. They did an X-ray which revealed a cracked bone in his back leg. They said that dogs in general do not show pain or weakness bc in packs the weakest is always left behind. That is why he didn't cry when it happened and why he would let us move it and stuff without showing any signs of pain. They put him in a splint that he had to wear for 3 weeks. Now at 8 months, he is perfectly fine...no signs that his little leg was ever broken. But, my point is, just bc he isn't showing any signs of pain when you touch or more his leg may not mean that it is not seriously injured. However, if he is walking on it, it would probably be safe to say that he is fine. Keep us updated on how he is doing! :p Hope he is back to normal in no time! :D |
I am going to take him to the vet if he still walks alittle funny in a couple of days..The Vet tech is a good friend of mine and she told me to wait it out to Saturday atleast, if I didn't think he was in pain..So I made another appt. for Saturday just to be on the safe side...Thanks for all the great advice...:aimeeyork |
